Wow already!
Results here:
http://www.iaaf.org/gle02/index.asp?filename=/gle02/intro.html
Steeple WR and 13 men under 10.20 in sprint heats, includuing 9.93 for Montgomery, 9.94 PR for Chambers and 9.98 for Collins in h2. The winds were 0.3 and 1.6 - Zurich is usually not too good for sprints because of slight headwinds.
2 under 1:44 in the 800m B race (yes, B race!).
10.88 for Marion Jones.
More to come...

Chambers beats Greene!
Montgomery beats them both! So does Coby Miller!
-1.3 wind (shame!)
Montgomery 9.99
Miller 10.00
Chambers 10.05
Collins 10.06
Greene 10.10
Emedolu 10.16
Obikwelu 10.19
Fredericks 10.39
Not seen it but reports are that MG got a poor start and limped away. No idea what happened to FF. -1.3 wind a pity after the heats.

Heck of a meet. There's a Zurich thread going in the Fantasy T&F forum, too.

Most outstanding meet of the season by far ... Outstanding performances pretty much throughout the event ... Seems to me that the Americans had too much time off as most appeared sluggish - per the results ... Haivng said that, they would have had to go some to beat today's performances !!!
Of coure would have been nice to have a men's 400 or 200 ... Or a men's 110H !!!! OR how about a women's 200 !!!

I wonder if the men's 800 was just a hick up for Krummenacker or if it was indicative that the Europeans were focusing there training in order to begin their best racing at the European Championships and hold that level through the end of the season. Not that Krummenacker ran poorly it's just that the other guys seemed to run more like themselves than they had been running earlier this season. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

As Conway pointed out, most of the US athletes seemed rather rusty after that lengthy layoff. I saw several of them try to rationalize what they had little control over as a nice mid-season layoff to get some good training/sharpening in, but it's tough to have the first meet back be such a big one.
Those of you who matched to catch the Zurich broadcast, how'd the races look?

I saw the broadcast and I really enjoyed it. But I haven't seen one all year. Carol Lewis asked the same question of everyone, concerning the layoff. But didn't El G have the same layoff?? Krummenacker's time was still sub 1:45 so that was pretty good. I hated to see Devers drop this race, I really was hoping she'd get a chunk of that gold. It would go a long way toward funding training expenses for the next 2 years, even though I'm sure she has plenty of support.

I saw the telecast and I thought a lot of people looked rather lethargic ... Was too big a meet for the first meet after almost a month ...
Yes ElG had the same layoff ... But distance runners tend to race less betweeen big races ... And the longer the race the more time you have ot get into a rhythm and shake off any "cobwebs" that might be there ... When your race is only 10 - 12 seconds, any minor mistake or hesitation becomes magnified ... Both Mo and Devers looked leg heavy to me ... As if they have been doing some 'background" type work ... I anticipate that both will look much different in ithe next meet which is about 2 weeks hence ... I also get the impression from Mo's season that he is/has been working through this season ... Doing his Fall work almost as he has gone along with the intent to have a large base for next year - looking ot do some "major" things in the championship/Olympics years ... NOt trying to make excuses for him, but he has looked leg heavy several times this year, only to come back and do things that only he and a couple of others have ever done before ... I get the impression that this year was written off before it began ... Not intending to lose much, but defintely gambling lthat he coudl outrun most people while doing his training ... Alittle arrogant perhaps, but then he has done what no one else has ... And that seems to be what drives him ...
