Hi from Belgium !
I am in a beginning jogging program and working with a heart/beat monitor. I do 30 minutes jogging/walking WITHIN my training heart range (117-157). I was wondering, though, do I gain AEROBIC FITNESS training on UP and DOWN hills????? My neighborhood is not straight at all and we only once a week drive out to the woods and the lake where it is straight. So of course, I can go a long way going a downhill and IMMEDIATELY go OVER my maximum heart rate going up a hill. B U T, do I still GAIN AEROBIC FITNESS?????????
Thanks for your answers in advance and regards from today 'sunny' Brussels

Yes going over hills does help you gain aeribic fitness. They are also good for increasing you strength. Since going up and down hills is more work than running on flat ground, running over hlls actually increases your aerobic fittness more than running on flat ground. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Lately I have been doing hill training on my easy days. Usually 1 day a weak I run one of my aerobic conditioning runs on a hilly course. I keep my intensity the same going up the hill so my pace drops off but I usually push the top of the hill to model good hill running. |
