The IAAF Grand Prix has shut down because of the Commonwealth Games and Euro Champs. This has
left like a 2-3 week break in the action. Wouldn't it have been a good idea for USATF to hold a meet or
meets for the better USA athletes who were racing in Europe(as well as those just below that level) and
anyone not in the Euro/Commonwealth Games? Meets like the Maine Dist Fset would have fit in great
now. Yet another missed opp by USATF to help the up and coming athletes in the USA and selling the
sport in USA.

Any thoughts?

I look at it as an opportunity to get some training in before the second half of the season gets underway. It would be too long to sustain that level of a peak.

I agree with both of you.

This would have been a great time for the US to try to put on a quaility meet with the US stars and some of the athletes not at the Commonwealth games. That's though is from the side of me that is trying to think what would be good for the sport of Track and Field in the US and from the fan side of me. As an athlete it is a great time to get in a couple quaility weeks of training to help maintain form through the second half of the European season. Although if the rest of the top level athletes in the world can participate in the Commonwealth Games I don't see what competing in a meet state side would hurt.
