Sort of like Christmas (the waiting and anticipation) the European Season is finally here ... And this year we have the excitement of the FAntasy League to go with the Golden League ...

And this year has been very quiet leading up to the Euro season ... With the exception of some braggadocio from a couple of sprinters (must be the added testosterone) not much has happened ... So for me htere are lots of questions .... Like:

Will Mo Greene ocntinue to be the dominant sprinter ???

Is Montgomery ready to challenge ???

Can Lagat (or someone else) pose a true challenge to ElG ??

With Geb stating he is only running one summer race who assumes the mantle of top dog in the distances ??

Who will be the top Americans on the cicuit in the distances ???

Will Allen Johnson break the WR this year ??

Is the long jump headed for a resurgence ??

And will any WR's be broken this year ??

Its a non global champinoships year ... ONe would expect lots of high quality aactivity as no one will be holding out for the "big one" ...

Don't let me forget to send out Fantasy T&F info shortly...

>> Will Mo Greene ocntinue to be the dominant sprinter ???

Yes.

>> Is Montgomery ready to challenge ???

Yes, but only our patience. Wink

>> Can Lagat (or someone else) pose a true challenge to ElG ??

No, there aren't any important races this year. Surprised

>> With Geb stating he is only running one summer race who assumes the mantle of top dog in the distances ??

Pick your Kenyan...

>> Who will be the top Americans on the cicuit in the distances ???

No change. Meb, Abdi, Culpepper, Broe, and hopefully a return of Kennedy and Goucher.

>> Will Allen Johnson break the WR this year ??

12.95 to 12.97. Close, but no cigar.

>> Is the long jump headed for a resurgence ??

Of quality marks or record challenging marks?

>> And will any WR's be broken this year ??

Other than the "new" events (women's pole vault and steeple, new javelins), I doubt it.

I am looking forward to seeing how the new order of female US middle distance runners stack up against the old gaurd. Runyan and Teeter vs Hamilton and Jacobs. (I know Runyan has been around for a couple of years but in my book she's still new guard, especially when compared to Jacobs and Hamilton.) I look for Teeter to keep running well and Runyan seems to get stronger with every distance race she runs.

This is pretty much only Runyon's second full year as a distance runner, with the previous year being fairly transitional. She's tough.

Good thing we didn't pick the Nice GP for the Fantasy T&F league. It was just announced that this year's meet has been cancelled due to lack of funding and TV conflicts...

Female middle distance running will be interesting for the US .. I've wathced Teter since she was in high school (she prepped in Sacramento) .. I've never seen anyone stay at the same level for so long and then - boom .. She seems very confident and has always had heart .. And while she set her indoor record in the 800 I look for her to transfer that speed to the 1500 and wreak some havok ...

I like Runyun too ... Tough woman ... But I would like to see her more at 3000/5000 ... Jacobs will be tough as usual .. I'm just ont sure about Hamilton .. She has the ability but she is missing something ...

I'm also looking forward to how the sprint wars go this year .. Could be a very fast year in the 100 and 200 ... 400 is in a transitional year .. Mo should still rule the 100 .. But the 200 is wide open and if Gatlin is allowed to compete there could be some very fast times ...

Alsolooking r=forwarde ot the long jump .. I think we may see one or two guys jump around the 28 foot level again this year ... Making the event competiive once again ...

I'm on that female middle distance band wagon. Teeter excites me more than anyone so far this year. And I am talking about running, guys... Smile

I'm really looking forward to the Fantasy League. One prediction I will make is that the Fighting Warthogs will dominate!!! Cool

Warthogs are tough animals who live in a hot climate, run a lot and are ugly.

I am too!!! Razz

Nah ... Micah just likes like to play the southern role .. He's pretty sharp ... Not sure about that Wart Hog stuff though ..

In about an hour they will begin toeing the line in Athens and the season will be under way ... For anyone who wants to follow the results or see who is in the fields go here: http://www.tsiklitiria.org/events.asp?lang=

MO Greene makes his debut in the 100 ... And there is a loaded field in the 200 ... Ceplak and Fuchsova are in the women's 800 - an event tabbed as being one of the best this year ... Krummenaker is in the men's 1500 against the likes of Legat and Ngeny ... So we will see what he is made of ... I wish he would settle in the 800 but oh well ..

Good luck to all who are in the Fantasy League ... But I do believe that "Speed City" will prevail over the Fighting Warthogs ... Wink

Check out http://www.athletix.org/ - a little easier to read results there. Looks like I'm yet to score my first fantasy point (did I really just say that in public??)...

I'm not even sure a single person on my roster competed today. Sad

I've got results entered for all but the men's 200, men's 5k, men's 110h, women's 1500, and women's high jump... The 200 results look like they're about to be posted, and I haven't checked the other events yet to see if they are even scheduled to take place.

Here's hoping for no goose egg when all's said and done... I've got some horses selected for the 200 and hurdles, with a few long shots in the other un-entered events, so there's still a chance!!!
