After running aimless for 6 months I decided to set, a new goal, plan it, and execute it: 44:59 over 10 K within the next 8 months is the crazy aim I have . This means I must improve by 4 minutes.
Our coach is sceptical, unless I loose at least 25 pounds, - and that’s exactly what I am going to do!
I made this decision 6 weeks ago and have kept it secret to avoid embarrassment. As I see progress it’s now time to announce it:
Weight:
4. October 212 pound (5.6 feet)
8. November 202 pound
Training:
I made a lactate test with a training plan, and surprisingly I had to reduce it first, then I must increase the basic endurance effort step by step .
I will keep you posted!
Peter
PS: If I fail with 46:00, I won't shoot myself |

Determination is good! And actually following through with it is even better! I hope you keep getting the positive results that you've gotten so far, because if you do, it looks like you'll accomplish your goal. |

That is a good goal. I think you will be able to achieve it. Especially if you manage to drop that weight. You are looking at running the 10K at a pace 39 seconds per mile faster than your current pr. I have seen a formula that suggests a 2 second per mile improvement for every pound lost. So a loss of 25 pounds should equate to a 50 second improvement. Those results will vary with each individual but still, loosing 25 pounds and adding some quality training sessions should get you to your goal. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

This was a tough week with 70 K, much more than I should have done, but we had 2 events including a half marathon training run (no competition), which I didn't want to miss.
I also saw the 200 pounds on the scale, but this bitch returned to 203 2 days later grrrr... |

Definitely those 25 pounds are a possibility or at least a good proportion of them - the first pounds come off a lot easier than the later ones... After a very long layoff I had basically the same goals as you do. So much so that when I went into the Personal Trainer at the Gym he thought I was a bit crazy but the big thing here is long term - Yes work towards that goal short term but don't put blinders on to get there... pay attention to your body and think long term health and performance. Just in brief here about 4 years ago I was 212, and just in crappy shape I knew then it would take me a long time to get where I want to be - 4 years later I have dropped 60 pounds and I am at least getting there... Still a way to go but happy with how far I have come... _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

... nightmares, resting HR 170, fear all day long, self doubts ...
What is it? Right, Peter is preparing for a 10 K race! Not a big one, a very small one in my village, but this even more pressure ...
Unexpectedly and not planned I set a new personal record 48:20 sometimes those things just happen
Although I must admit I had help by a training partner, who ran it in 35:05 and came back and joined me for the last 2 K. He "talked" me through the aim: "... knees up, use your arms, head straight ..., and now you go, go". I guess this all were worth 40 seconds, even the strong feeling to puke after the end was worth it.
And I must confirm again, nothing tastes better after a sucessful run than 4 pints of beer, and I regret all the people who don't know this feeling

Nice job. Must've been the extra adrenalin from that low, low resting HR.

Great Job! In the race and getting those carbs back in your system.
Getting closer to that goal - keep it up! _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |
