Every week during our XC season I give my runners an evaluation sheet. On that sheet I have a section titled: Quote of the week. Its usually inspirational and usually about or by a runner.

I have quoted everyone from Zatopec to John Belushi, and I am running out of quotes.

Now I know that Dan has shown his dislike for quotes in the past but this could be interesting.

Do any of you have a favorite running quote?

"There comes a time in every mans life when he feels the need to roll up his sleeves, spit upon his hands and begin slitting throats"

I can't remeber who its by but I always liked the sound of it. Although I probably just butchered it.

"I don't design my workouts for your enjoyment"

Gene Hackman - Hoosiers

"That is one stupid son a &!*$+. Yeah but he sure can run"

Forrest Gump

"I don't remeber all the clubs we went to"

Shaq when asked if he visited the Pantheon while he was in Greece.

I almost forgot the greatest and stupidest quote I've ever heard in person.

"This coarse is racially biased!"

Jason Humphries a college teammate of mine after a cross country meet where Africans went 1-6. I never liked the guy but I laughed my butt off at that, primarily because he was serious.

Actually, I quite like inspirational quotes. What I don't like is "clever" or "deep" posts intended to make a point that are not relevant to the point being made...

"It only hurts up to a certain point. Then it can't get any worse."
Ann Trason

Appropriate for both running and hangovers. Very Happy
