From today's Runner's World online interview with Driss Maazouzi:
Quote: | When we go to France's national training camps, the staff call me "the workaholic." I can't step on the track if I haven't put a certain amount of effort in my preparation. This is unthinkable for me. I need to train hard. I want to believe that my opponents are better than me because they train harder, and not because of something else. |
Seems to pertain to our talent/genetics discussions...

I think it might also allude to drugs and other ergogenic aids, although I might be taking it out of context. Either way that is the attitude I wish every athlete had. Believe that the best prepared person will win and then do everything in your power to prepare yourself better than everyone else. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

It's possible, but my interpretation is that he was talking purely about genetics. In other words, he won't admit that ElG is a better athlete, only that he's trained harder and gotten to a higher level. In other words, no external excuses. It's all about what you can do and where that will get you.
I'm sure there's much more that could be read into the quote, but if you look at it just at face value, I very much like the message.
