Ya'll are probably going to think that I'm crazy, but, here's a question. Will sex slow you down? I've heard from some that it does, some that it doesn't and from some that as long as it is more than three days before a race, you're ok. If any of you know the truth, I'd be more than grateful. Thanks |

I wouldn't do it for the two nights before a race, since it could cause you to loose valuable sleep. But other than that the only real studies I've read on the subject are about the effects of high mileage running on sex drive, running large anounts of miles causes an initial drop in sex drive which will return as the body adapts to the new work load. Imagine that.

I remember in HS one of my coaches told be about the "2 day rule." (Don't have sex as close as 2 days before you race.) I read (somewhere??) that it depends on: the intensity of the sex, hours before the race, and the emotions generated by the act.
I would advise a 12 hour rule. "don't have sex less than 12 hours before you wake up for the race."
I think that 1st time sex would be risky because of the emotions created. But I imagine that married couples might have sex before a race for relaxation. |

To summarize, anything that tires you out close to a race is probably detrimental. Beyond that, do whatever seems to work for you. People tend to have vastly differing pre-race rituals.

So the loss of testosterone won't slow me down at all? |

I doubt testosterone works in that way.

It ain't a major problem. I've only had one girl that this stuff has turned into an issue with and, well, it always seems we get together on Friday nights and I got meets on Saturdays, so I was putting stuff on hold till I found out just what the story was. So, in short, I ain't a sex crazed maniac. |
