A lot of these boards have a preference. Some are more into distance running some sprints etc etc.
I ain't talking just Mo and Marion here. I am a "serious" sprint fan who appreciates the roots to the tree so to speak.
A bit of an historian to be truthful! |

Well then you've come to the right place. I enjoy most of the events, but my leaning is toward the sprints. I certainly wouldn't classify myself as a historian, although I do appreciate the pioneers of the sport.

Great Dan. I always like to tell the story about the dude who was our fastest sprinter in 36. But due to an injury was unable to compete in Berlin.
Of course we didn't need him with Owens and Metcalfe. |

He didn't attend Whitman by an chance, did he? Bob Graham? He holds the school record in the 100y and 200y, and the story as I heard it is that he finished in a dead heat with Owens in the '36 trials, but injured his hamstring and couldn't go to Berlin.
Ah, they have the school records posted.

Hahaha..that was cool! No it was Eulace Peacock from Temple. In 1935 Peacock won three out of five races with Owens and had ran faster times.
In 36 he would injure his right thigh at the Penn Relays and as they say ....the rest is history.
Imagine somebody telling Hitler after watching Jesse win another race "they left their REAL! fast one at home!".....hahaha....later bro! |

Do I get a consolation prize? Assuming my story is correct (I have no reason to doubt the person that told it to me), that goes pretty deep into the depths of trivia, considering I've never seen it mentioned elsewhere.

Deep trivia?......How about what other 100 record did Owens hold besides the 100 yard 9.4 and the 100 meters 10.2?
I had heard of Graham! |

That wasn't an invitation to out-do me.
My guess would be the hurdles.

Uh-oh folks, you're in trouble now! Conway is sure to test our knowledge, reasoning, and response time on a variety of topics, especially the sprints. I hope I'm up to the challenge...
