If he had some 400s in his workout, he could have easily been a qualified middle distance runner...look at his PB for the mile and 1500m. He does his 1000m at 3:50 mile pace split into sets. It looks like Haile was able to run at 4:40 for 26 miles because he had a very stable Vo2, or endurance at that level. Now I have a question...what would happen if I started to use his workouts? It might be possible I will be able to lower the mile further than Haile if I put in a final kick at the end of every set? Or...I could start doing 400s and 200s within a month before a competition. Bekele's PB for the 10k is 26:17, that is around 4:30 pace. How could he run his best at 4:30 pace, and Haile runs 26 miles at 4:40?? 10 seconds off every mile is not that big of a difference..I don't understand. I have been looking for a harder level of running, something harder than middle distance.

When an elite runner like Tergat or Haile prepare for a marathon, do they do sets of 10k?
