Lets say you run at 10mph from not eating anything. Now let's say you run the next day at 10mph after you ate a banana, drank some juice, eaten carbs, etc. Both of the people complete the run. The first person starts to struggle towards the end, while the second person does not. Now the day after, person 2 made more gains than person 1. By gains I mean, like .1mg of muscle added to the heart or more capillaries have formed. I am exaggerating here since it is impossible to find gains after a day. Now technically, person 2 has run faster than person one towards the end due to the amount of energy. If we calculate the amount of work done for both people, person 2 would have more done more effort. By the way, both of these people are the same level of fitness. The main point here is that, the gains do not come entirely from completeing a workout session, but instead with the amount of work done. Instead of two people, it can be done on one person. You will make faster gains if you run with energy, than without, even if you complete the workout session both ways.

That definitely makes sense. You have to focus on your full body health, inside and out. Good eating habits are essential along with regular exercise.
