ok this might be hard to answer but I'll give it a try and ask you guys
at Track practices I prove to be very competitive and in speed work and middle distances I am usually leading the pack. [ except for when I trip over a hurdle earlier in practice and sprain my ankle ]
Yet when my team goes to track meets I never feel excited like at practices and I end up doing a lousy pace and finding I can run faster in the parking lot straight after the race
I also realize that I seem to heal strike while racing and at practice I run on my toes...if you guys have any tips or help or anything please tell me
it might be all in my head so Im going to try lots of positive thinking and I'll try to make my self nervous..it brings out my speed
thanks
Steph

It sounds like nerves are getting the best of you in race situations, and to deal with it, you're numbing yourself down to the point the adrenaline isn't kicking in. I dealt with something similar in high school... I worked on calming myself down before races, but I got too good at it and no longer got fired up, so I had to go back to the drawing board and allow the emotions to flow...
Don't be afraid to be nervous. Embrace it! The feeling of butterflies ... that's what makes you rise to the occasion and race faster than you train.

I agree with the felling of nervousness - I get nervous if I am not nervous haha
If you run the 400 perhaps getting in some shorter races might help as well like a 4X200 or part of an SMR having the extra incentive of a relay and team members might help get you pumped up to run fast. _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

I recently went to a track meet:
( Im a '93 girl)
in 400m I beat my old PB by 4 seconds and my time was 1min 8 seconds
Then I did 200m Hurdles I beat my first ever time by one second,so I
got a time of 34.9.
Then I did 200m and got a time of 29.99 a New PB too
And then I did 60mHurdles for my first time and got 14.00 seconds.
Then my team got first in the relay.
So I got 3rd in 400 by my toe
Then second in 200m Hurdles i stutter stepped need more practice
Then in 60m Hurdles I came 3rd
Then in 200m I came in second
