Hi I have been running for a few years now and have just recently started researching and entertaining the idea of improving my running form. I came across this article for the POSE Technique. Seemed logical. I wanted to see if anyone out there had any experience with this technique or have any other suggestions.

I recently have been experiencing some shin and right knee pain. I just turned 31 and I attributed it to getting older and having an old knee injury from surfing coming back to haunt me. So here I am researching improved running techniques to reduce the chance of injuries. Your input would be appreciated.

Thanks...

My personal opinion: You don't start changing mechanics until you've identified what needs to be changed and why. What are you doing now that you think would benefit you to adjust?

I've been playing around with Chirunning for a few months. I like what I've picked up from it so far.

I don't have a clear idea of any faults I may have in my running technique. I figured there is a correct way and incorrect way to run. I would love to become more efficient in my running and make sure that any movements I may have are not detrimental to my body and performance.

In saying this it sounds like I may need to talk with someone who can view my running technique. Maybe a running coach at my local highschool or college would be willing to help?

It's hard for me to say what I'm doing wrong. This is why I started researching and looking to see what the "experts" say is proper running technique. This way I can at least read about what I should work on before I go out and ask for someones help and time.

Any books out there you suggest for reading would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Not really. While some may tell you that's the case (while selling you on their specific program), they'll fail to point out all the athletes who excel despite supposedly running "wrong." There are generalities that'll hold true for most runners, such as being light on your feet, but no one can say for sure what the best form is for X individual.

Unless you're good at observing yourself in action, there's really no substitute for working with someone that can give you the necessary feedback in person.

My coach has always told me, "Run like you're a child on a playground". The same idea can be attributed in Danny Dreyer's book Chi Running
