...is it psychotic to consider a marathon a month or so later? I have two more months to train, and I am sure that I am ready RIGHT NOW for the 1/2. Should I just train thru the 1/2 and let that be an easier long run that sunday?
I am really driven to finish a marathon, and I don't want to wait and try to train thru the winter for a spring one as I work six sometimes seven days a week in the winter, on top of being a single mom. I am also not against having to walk a bit to get there. It's about the finish, not the method for me.
So, it would be Nov 9 or I wait until the following summer. Ideas? Slaps upside the melon? _________________ EZ-PASS THIS LANE ONLY. |

A month is probably enough rest after a half, but it all depends on how you feel. I would just wait and see, and leave the option open till you know for sure.

Part of this could depend on how tough the course is. If the course has a lot of hills, it may well take a lot more out of you than you bargained for. If its flat you could be fine in two weeks.
Considering the times you mentioned in other posts, you are looking at roughly 2 hours 15 minutes of running. Have you gone out for a 3+ hour run and walk session yet?? A marathon may approach close to 5 hours.
In your zeal to complete a marathon you may end up dreading looking ahead to it only a month after completing a half, not a good position to be in mentally, you could be just setting yourself up for failure.
Since you appear to be in this for the long haul, waiting until next year wouldn't be that much of a sacrifice.
By the way, any chance of calling by your first name instead of GF??

I am going to be happy just to finish in the 2 hours 10 range.
I have no plans for a full at this time. I will go watch her run it, and wait at the finish line with the camera. |

Well, I edited this post. I wrote it just to give Ranger some grief, but I think GW can do a fine job all on her own!!

What?! "Garrett's Woman" doesn't do it for ya? My name is Alia. Rhymes with Maria. _________________ EZ-PASS THIS LANE ONLY. |

GW (Garrett's Woman): Here's a short article from the Reebok/RunnersWorld site by Jeff Galloway that you might find interesting. In fact, even though most of the articles are quite basic, I found many worth reading.

And one of the most oft referenced coaches.

I decided against the full Monty. I just don't have the proper amount of time to give to mid-week runs at this point and I'm not willing to sacrafice time with my son. When it's time, it will be right. _________________ EZ-PASS THIS LANE ONLY. |
