Anyone know anything about this guy? He won the US Cross Country Championships in 1981, the year before Pat Porter began his domination. Royle also ran a fast 20K ( 58:38 ) in 1981. What happened to this guy. He isn't someone I had ever heard of until this week. |

Adrian was an English runner who also was ranked 15th in '82 with a 10,000 in Eugene of 27:47.16. Also, he outsprinted Suleiman Nyambui by 0.4 for a 13:26.4 5000 victory at Mount Sac the same year to win the 5,000m. As of a few years ago, he still held the 16th fastest 10,000m in British history. An 8:25+ 2-mile also has him down as one of the 50 fastest all-time indoor two-milers. His 13:26 in '83 is still listed as one of the top 500 times on the 5km track list. He ran for Athletics West in the early 80's and placed 18th at Bloomsday in '83 with a time of 36:42. He ran well in England during the late 70's and even better in the US in the early 80's. However, he disappeared shortly after his string of successful early 80's successes. |

Will, very impressive! I'm assuming you didn't do that all from memory?

Most of it, I did. I didn't know he was still listed that high on the indoor list. Had to do a little digging for that one. He also ran a good mile, but I've never seen the numbers.
Karl Keska mentioned something about him to Nick, and Nick said something about him once. |

Karl Keska's from Britain and his old (current) roommate Nick Rogers used to train together before Dellinger's stroke. |

Plus he used to race against an old coach of mine, Jon Sinclair. Jon told me about him once. |

Gotcha. I couldn't place any UO "Nick" (I think he actually spells it Nic, but I'm not positive)... I've never met Rogers that I can recall, but I've met Keska a couple of times and he seems like a nice guy. Quite the improvement he had after college! Or, you could look at it as quite the disappearing act during college...

Yeah, he always regretted some of the things that happened to him with the classroom side of his college career, but his seems to have paid off for him in the long run. Last I talked to him he was back getting his degree.....although he's been wrestling with injuries for an uncomfortably long time. |
