Thanks, Conway, great recap. I definitely agree about Suzy. She just appears too fragile and I'm not just alluding too her Olympic collapse. I thought the Cross Country experience this year would be a positive thing, toughness wise, but apparently not. If she were to be dropped by any of her major sponsors she might actually have a breakdown.

And yes, Jenny Adams is quite attractive!!

And the Gabe, Suzy as the all-space cadet interview team. That should make Track and Field News!! Laughing

I always feel sorry for track athletes in interviews. They just get finished giving a 100% exertion and then 20 seconds later they have Jim Grey or somebody sticking a microphone in their face asking them questions. With that level of oxygen debt just about everyone sounds a little like an air head. Although Suzy and Gabe do sound a good bit more airy that the rest.

I feel sorry for anyone with a Jim Grey attached to their face...

I hear that. After the Pete Rose thing, I was expecting him to ask Regina, when she was going to admitt to doping. (I can't remeber if it was him that interviewed her but I wouldn't have been surprised).

Was anyone else surpised to see Ruyan beat Dena Drossin in the 5k? I knew that Marla was good but I didn't think she was ready to beat the likes of Dena D. Of coarse I was surprised that Drossin wasn't in the 10k. She seems to get better as distances get longer. She might just be saving her legs for a couple of good 10k's in Europe.

I didn't catch this race on TV so I didn't see any interviews or commentary, was there any mention of why she was in th 5 instead of the 10.

I was surprised to see Deena in the 5k instead of the 10k ... But not surprised that Runyan beat her ... Runyon has more speed than Deena ... The longer the distance the more advantage to Deena ... But the shorter the distance the more advantage to Marla ... It's that speed thing again !!! Rolling Eyes

Regina also ran away from Deena at the end of the 5k when they raced at nats, so it would appear that distance is a bit too short for Drossin to hang with the strong kickers. Still, I figured she would try putting away Runyan earlier and force a much faster pace even if not victorious.

Random thoughts as I read ya'lls posts (and I haven't been drinking) Wink

Runyan: OUTSTANDING!!!!!

Drossin: Marathon could ultimately be her best distance. We will see this fall in Chicago.

Teeter: Being 28 doesn't alarm me when I look at how Regina has done at her age and how well Lynn Jennings did into her mid 30's. I was trying hard not to be the first one to bring this up but since the door has been opened...YES Teeter is terrific on the eyes. Surprised

Jenny Adams: Another looker but is the hurdles her best event or the long jump? Help me out Conway since this is out of my area of expertise.

Devers: I kiss the track she runs on. She seems to get better with every season. She is so positive and upbeat in every interview. And in an area that I do claim a little expertise in...Devers has one of the finest posteriors in the civilized world. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Suzy: Before we get carried away with marketing the cuteness of our stars lets think about something. Suzy went through that cover girl glamour phase a couple of years ago. Could that have affected her competitiveness? I'm not saying it did but I am curious if it might have.

Gabe: What you get when you cross running with the Grateful Dead!!

Now, THAT is classic Micah!!! Smile

I don't even remember who told me this, but I heard it through the infamous grapevine that Suzy was rather flaky in high school, too. Hardly conclusive evidence, but it would seem to indicate that the chicken did indeed come before the egg, or something like that... Confused

I wasn't suggesting that Teter is too old, just that her age would indicate she's right at her prime right now and her newness on the scene may or may not indicate 5 years of improvement like one might expect.

Hmm, we might have to do something about this... Seems our new cover girl is sorely lacking for online presence, this being all I could find:

Actually, aside from reading (unless you count online), that sounds a lot like my hobbies...

Slim pickings, but here are a couple of pictures:

I could've sworn there was a more recent RW interview with her, possibly after the adidas Oregon Track Classic, but their archives have gotten nearly impossible to locate, let alone search...

Dan, I went to those 2 sites. It seems the men's indoor 800m was faster than the outdoor. Even Teter ran faster. Is Stember moving to the 800m on a permanent basis??

Like Conway said, outdoor nationals didn't have especially impressive times. I'm not sure what to make of the comparison, but I'm sticking by my foot-in-mouth statement that the Stanford track would not produce fast times. Smile

Don't know about Stember, but he seems to share enough of Gabe's qualities to make it impossible to know what he's thinking...
