Greene beats a stellar field comfortably in an impressive 10.03 (+1.4) to show great early season form. It was a great line-up rarely seen so early in the international circuit.
Marian jones won her race in 11.28 against a mediocre field and seemed to be pushed by myricks (US) for the first 80m. Myricks clocked 11.35.
Still it is a sign of some return to form.
Full result for 100M
1 greene 10.03
2 pognon(fra) 10.09
3 phillips 10.14
4 montgomery 10.14
5 egbele(nig) 10.19
6 norman 10.31
7 capel 10.31
8 wesley 10.35

I agree it was a great race for Greene who looks to be 'back' especially in regards to his finishing ability.

Marion looked better than she did last week and the week before (23.4 200m relay leg & 55.03 400m respectively) although in her current shape I cannot see making the US Women's team in either (100m or 200m) Sprint event. She would be hard pressed to make the 4x1 relay off of running 11.2...

Great meeting overall with some good early (it's still early!) season marks being put down by the big (and relatively big) names in the world of Track & Field

To actually be able to train and compete with all the pressures of the drug allegations really does take a lot of mental resolve.

I suppose it is the best way to handle the situation by taking your mind off it.

Once you get out on the track to work out, you either do the workouts or you don't ... Her coach has been saying that she is fit enough to be running sub 50 and sub 11 ... When you have pressure on you, you either get out there and get it done or you step back and wait til you are ready ...

Personally I simply think her time has past ... She's long past her PR's (1998) and long past anything resembling a solid season (2002) ... Time waits for no one ...

Montgomery can still run at this point til his hearing takes place and a decision handed down ... But reality is that he hasn't run a Sub 10 clocking since his WR in '02 !!! And I would be very surprised to see him run another one ...

Trivia - Who was the last WR holder to never run a legal sub10 after setting the record ???

---
Maurice Green is back, but he has to focus on the World Championships‘2005, and not every particular meet like in the past. He may capture the gold medal again, but not if he will try to dominate.
---
Marion Jones is back, but she is not back to dominate. If she will aim at the World Championships’2005, she may actually make it to the finals in all three: 100, 200 or 400, and the broad jump. However, it will be her great personal success, if she will win a medal.
---

I do not see how other women would let her back on the relay without informing her about pre--paying a hit man (I exaggerate a little, more likely about possible mugging) in the case that she would fail. You can see that they are doing a lot of preemptive talking not to let Marion back in. One of them, after they won the 4 x 100 m relay at the Penn Relays the passing Saturday, said that they have a great relay already (check www.usatf.org for her exact words).

Let us talk about Capel.
I remember that he was a favorite athlete to hate of Plip (Philip M.) of www.iaaf.org fora/forums (Plip got booted from the www.iaaf.org fora/forums many more times than I did, but he had knees to beg to be allowed back. I toned it down, and changed my nickname from indeur to Rahiim).
He used to call him Capel Chapel, and he predicted even before the famous flinch that he will achieve nothing superb.
Does Capel have a chance at greatness, or will he at best be an indoor/Pan Am/relay guy?
I remember that Mr. Little used to be a great indoor guy over 200 m. There is one problem: 200 m is out of the major indoor championships.

On the other hand, the team U.S.A. needs relay guys like him. Therefore, it may be better to be nice to the guy.

I believe it was Lewis or Burrell. I'm leaning toward Lewis without looking it up.

My answer to Conway's trivia (without peeking):

Leroy Burrell

I think it was burrell too. I think lewis ran sub-10 in 1996. I am not too sure if he did it in 1992.

Answer is ----- Burrell ... Although Lewis never ran sub10 after his 9.86 (not legally he did have a couple of windy performances) ... Burrell followed suit by running 9.85 in '94 and never turning the trick again (legal or windy) ...

It,s interesting that After running 9.85/9.86 u are unable to even breech sub-10 again. Just shows that any sub-10 performance is not to be scoffed at even though so many more sprinters are doing it due to natural progression and dare I say some not so natural.

Lewis' sub 10 I was thinking about must hve been the windy 9.96 I think he ran to win before the atlanta olympics in Modesto beating the likes of Bailey and Mitchell Question

I guess that makes Bailey and Greene the only 2 WR setters to go sub-10 after breaking the record?
