Oregon had two guys in the top 8!

No one for the girls, though...

Just read a recap of the races from someone who attended. Sounds like it was some excellent racing.

Thanks, Dan! Wow, Galen missed it by 2 sec, and Zoe got clobbered.

I didn't want to repost the recap without permission, but it's in the t-and-f archives now, so here it is for everyone's enjoyment:

I'm surprised Galen didn't win (I'm a little late, but who cares?). Watching him run 14:55 by himself at the state meet was incredible. Anyone know what Ryan Vail didn't run (he didn't run at regionals)?

It's a good sign when the 8th place finisher in the nation almost got fourth at our own state meet. Hope Rupp can go sub-8 in the 3k this year.

I expect we'll see pretty big things from Rupp this year on the track. His preparation seems to be all about as controlled an evironment as possible, and that's more conducive to track racing than XC.

Sub 8 for 3k!?!

Wouldn't he have to be running a lot faster than 14:55 for 5k to do that? An 8 minute 3000 is equivalent to a sub 14 5k.

He was around 8:10 last year, so it isn't a huge stretch. I think he's pretty clearly a track specialist.

I think it was 8:10 at the Twilight last year (or was that 8:14?). Whether he can do 8 flat against HS competition... and not sure what Central Catholic will try to do with him at the State Meet. May have to wait until the end of the season HS invites. Last year he ran a couple of indoor meets. Graeme, you might actually run into him in Seattle this season! This makes for a very long training period for him.

He won't go sub-8 against OR HS competition. Eagon and Ahmed will push him to 8:25, but that's not really helping when you want to go 8:00. I hope Rupp does one of the big 3200 competitions this year against HS competition. I doubt Withrow could stay with him despite his FL win. Deak and Stanley would probably try to stay with him too. Should be interesting.

Rupp is a beast and probably the next best hope, but he would have been blown away by Kiptoo if he was healthy. I've seen him run and he is awsome!!! He's already run sub 4 equivilant in the 1500 and was only able to train a couple of times in the month preceding the national championship and he still finished 3rd.

There was an article in the Tribune on Rupp. He is going to run in a couple of indoor meets on the East Coast. Salazar thinks he can get down to 4:05 for the mile indoors. Considering what you were saying about Kiptoo, the field at Footlocker must have been pretty strong. What happened to Zoe this year??

With exeption of the FL West race Nelson was never tested. Of course that is what happened to her last year. I thought that Blood would win because she runs the toughest schedule. I was most imprested by the younger Lawrence sister from Nevada. It would have been fantastic to see her get her first win at nationals. (she had always led her sister, a senior, win)

Hammer, is that you?? I apologize for being so out of touch. You have a lot of catching up to do. Awesome congrats on the NM State victory. How about a blow by blow of your season??

Did you see Rupp run 4.10 indoors in Arkansas? He will run an elite indoor this weekend with another prep star Josh McDougal who is homeschooled. It doesn't look like Rupp has the speed to challenge any of the national records this year. I think he can run 4.05 in the mile and maybe high 8.40s low 8.50s in the 2 mile. Maybe Rupp will be a good 10k runner??

And yes Paul this is the Hammer. I forgot my password and I am being lazy.

Rupp's 3k last year puts him at about 8:49 for 2 miles, so I'd say he's got a pretty good shot at sub-8:50, assuming he runs a high level 2 mile somewhere during the season.
