That's a lot of invites! But if I remeber correctly you said you try to alternate hard and easy meets right?

That's correct DG. What I consider a difficult or big invitational is +10 teams (good teams) a 10 meet invitational with 8 weak to average teams can be an easy meet. We run in 4 invitationals that have less than 8 teams and we are usually the best team in the bunch so that ends up being an easy week.

Also: every runner does not run in every meet.

Sounds like a good way to run a season. Although the athletes I have would have a revolt if I sat anyone for any meet other than the over night varsity only meets, where I sit my slow runners. I just can't seem to canivnce my good runners that they don't need to run in every single meet. Although I will admit I'd rather have it this way as opposed to having people that were scared to race.

I have that same problem. I have never sat a health runner. If a runner is under the weather or has an injury I don't hesitate to give that runner a meet off. Now that rule changes for the last 2 meets. And I haven't always taken a runner out. Last year I allowed my #1 runner to convince me to let him run in a big invite (36 teams) when he was sick. He was a senior and knew it would be the last time he would get to run there. It was a big mistake. He ran poorly and followed it up with 2 bad races.

I can simpithise it's hard to sit a runner at a meet they really want to run in. Especially when they are a senior or the meet is special to them. And in that situation I usually worry that the emotional backlash of sitting them will have worse results than the physical toll the race takes on the runner.
