Im just wondering which is better. I never eat breakfast. I know breakfast is the most important mean..blah..blah.. but whenever I do I usually get sick. This happens when I dont run also. But anyway Im wondering is there are any benefits from running in the morning or evening. In the morning i have an empty stomach but it actually feels pretty good. I usually have more energy in the evening but i dont feel as light for some reason. |

This was actually covered a while back in the forum. The consensus was that the best time to run is whenever works best for you. For some people, that means both in the morning and evening, for others it is a group practice time in the afternoon, and for others it might be in the morning before it gets too hot out.

I never eat breakfast until long after my morning run! When I lived in Europe, all most folks had for breakfast was coffee and a roll. They didn't eat a real meal until hours later.
Even before marathons and Ultra-distance races, all I'll eat is a banana and coffee.
Morning or evening workouts - doesn't matter at all, as long as you do it. This time of the year I usually start out with the dog at about 6:30am, because it's nice and cool, and just getting light.
I run with the dog for an hour, bring him back to the castle, then continue the run. By the time I finish, it's beginning to get warm.
In the evening it's really too warm to run comfortable here - the heat is still coming off the ground.
When I lived in Houston, Texas, I would often run about midnight, in an attempt to avoid a little of the heat and humidity - it didn't work.
So, AM or PM, pick the time that fits your lifestyle and or climate. Mad Dog Mike www.training2run.com |

I agree with all of the above. I tend to do two days a lot and so run both AM and PM. If I'm only doing one run then I like to do it in the morining that way it's over and done with and I don't have to find to do it during the day or stumble around after dark. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Abso-loo-toot-ly right on. I'd forgotten about that.
Probably one of the best reasons for running in the morning is you've gotten it over with. Then, if you feel like it, you can also run in the evening.
I've tried running two-a-day, but never stuck with it. Fits my personality better just to take one Godzilla run in the morning - rather than split it into two moderately long runs.
Actually my morning run is usually (not always) long and tough enough so I'm still tired in the evening.
Lately I've been drastically increasing the length of my single runs, and allowing myself to take more days off. Who knows how long this will last - the program changes all the time. Mad Dog Mike www.training2run.com |
