Saw an interesting statement somewhere that soccer was actually hurting youth running because talented runners were playing soccer instead of running track. |

That may be true, but I doubt it's that simple. Soccer is also developing many good athletes, some of which switch over to track/xc later on. We have no way of knowing if that same talent would develop if they started with running instead of soccer, but many tests have shown kids develop best when they don't focus on a single sport (i.e. running). Even if soccer is "stealing" some great running talent, who's to say those athletes would take up running instead of another team sport if not for soccer?

I think the draw to soccer for kids is thta it is a lot of fun and just about anyone can play ... Sounds just like track and field doesn't it ?? As a result loads of kids play it and therefore the odds are great that some tremendous talent is going to emerge .. I don't think it steals talent from trakc and field as much as it is just better marketed and so kids gravitate there .. .. |

No offense, but Geeez! You guys should lighten up and give the guy a break. Soccor guy was just having some fun. Also, whats up with tracking down the "anonymous" person?!!! You guys should get away from your computers more often. Go for a run, get some fresh air, smell some flowers, jump in mud puddles...something along those lines. It would be good for you.
Well, happy runnings! |

Actually we probably aren't as intense as we may sound. In fact, I certainly hope I am not! So in the spirit of doing something totally frivilous...I think I will go build myself a damn fine martini!!!! |

See, here's the problem. The majority of people that speak anonymously on the 'net do so because they don't want to be held accountable for their irresponsible words. As such, there is much less leeway given to anonymous posters, especially by me. I'll answer anonymous questions, but you have to know going in you'll be taken much less seriously.
Someone's idea of fun is incensing to someone else, especially when posted as a troll like the first post of this thread. If you want to mix things up, do so in an intelligent and discussion provoking manner, and have the courage and decency to not hide behind a fake name. It's common courtesy.
As for "tracking down" the anonymous poster, please take a few minutes to learn what you're talking about before insinuating that people who live up to some moral standard have nothing better to do with their time.
