Im curious a little bit, what are your personal bests, age? For fractures, (I dont want to act like an expert, I just want to say what worked for me that might work for others). Drink a lot of milk for calcium. Usually I got tired of drinking milk, so I came across a type of club soda. It is called "Borsec" and it has 47.75 percent calcium, more than 15% in regular milk, and its water. For about 3 weeks my shin splints stopped, and my metatarsal pain stopped too. I researched stress fractures or regular fractures and I learned about an organism that lives in our bones called an "osteophite." These repair your bones constantly for every second you live. If someone experiences a lot of shin splints, and metatarsal stress thats because the osteophites are overwhelmed by the constant bone damage. By trying to AVOID pediatrics, etc. The osteophites slowly adapt and increase in number which thus allows a much faster recovery within hours even. Were you feeling any type of pain in your metatarsal before the fracture? If not, then it was most likely an accidental injury such as slipping on a couple grains of sand on the road. |

My PRs are nothing worth discussing...
No pain in the bone leading up to the injury. It was purely a freak type accident.

I coach high school and college previously. My coaching abilities are at a much higher level than I was at as a runner...

Have you ever coached a runner long enough to get him to break the 4 minute barrier? |

No, although a runner on the team I coached with previously accomplished that feat.

Oh really? How old was he, and about in exactly how much time did he run sub 4? Is he famous of some sort, would I find him on google? Still 3 minutes is sick, it shows the true evolution of the sport. |

This thread is long overdue for an update...
After a late summer groin/hamstring pull (slow healing combo!), I've been steadily building back up since December, gradually adding regularity and mileage. I've been at 5-6 days and maybe 30-35 miles a week for the past month or two.
Over spring break, I ran a leg of the 4x400 with my HS group at an all comer's meet, shocking pretty much everyone, including myself, with a 64.0 split. First time I had been in spikes or run a track race in 12+ years...
I haven't been doing much in the way of workouts, as we're in season and I'm usually busy timing on workout days. I have gotten some tempo stuff in with the group on light days, however. Basically, their light-medium days are my hard efforts! I mostly run with the new group to keep them on task.
Today, we did an "easy" long run at Bush Park, but it turned out to be a quality day with a steady diet of cutdown 1.5 mile loops. Rough times, going from memory: 12:50, 12:00, 11:50, 10:50, and 10:20, the latter being close to 6:50 pace. Felt surprisingly good. We tried easing back on the last one to go more like 12:00, but then we went crazy the last half mile...

Wow, it must feel good to be getting back into it after so many injuries... and it must be fun to still be able to run with HS friends _________________ My Athlinks profile - some road races I've done and stuff |
