|

Hey All,
New to this forum, and had a question for all of you that have run many marathons. I am training right now for a 1/2 on June 16th. The training is going great! I am wondering..I have a friend that just asked me to do a full with her in October...is that a possibilty? I know that the training is hard, and I am willing to put in the time, but is that just asking too much too soon??
Thanks |

If you're in good enough shape to handle the half in June (without being completely shot from it), then building up to the full marathon distance by October is perfectly reasonable.

Thanks Dan,
I already know at this point the half will be fine for me. I didn't start training from no base, when starting this year I was already running 8 miles for my long runs (which I know isn't a lot...considering) and have done alot of duathlons/tri's in the past 3-4 years. The Mary is such a L O N G distance, and I didn't want to risk injury, or do it and be completely shot from it. Just thought the advice from those who had been there before would be great!
Thanks so much. I am still considerig, but think Oct might be on my race squedule. _________________ Always lookin' forward! |

I haven't been there, myself, and probably never will... I just know it's a reasonable, normal build-up.

Coming from one that has run a few marathons - its a race nothing more nothing less. It is a test but then again all races are - just a different type of one. It is not the end all be all that some make it out to be it suits some people and others not. Cryptic enough for you all...
haha
In all seriousness - Following a well thought out plan will give you plenty of time to increase from a half marathon to a full marathon by October. Just that make sure you have a well thought out plan and follow it. If you have any questions feel free to ask - Good luck in your race _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

Hi Sporty Mamma-
I did my first half marathon when my son turned 6 months- it was a huge goal for me and that was in Feb. I am doing another half on June 7th and then a marathon in October as well. It is totally possible for you. My goal is to feel good at this half and then start training to finish the marathon. I too love to run, I am not to prove anything but to myself for training and finishing. I used to compete in figure and fitness competitions but then found a love for running- in fact I was training for my first marathon when I found out I was pregnant- I think the running made me relax and have fun and helped my mental state- now I know what that runner's high everyone talks about feels like. I was also scared of getting injured but I revamped my diet ( meal plan) and started taking awesome natural supplements such as glutamine, BCAA's and now I take the best glucosamine and I see a huge difference. Good luck with your training.

Just wondering if there are any special exercises that runners do that I may not know. Thanks for sharing.
