Oh Fry, I'm crazy, not tough. Anyhow, stop making me Embarassed .

Today I ran 30 miles! Longest run since my ultra flop! Oh, and the achilles seems to be fine. (crossing fingers).

Way to go Jaz, 30 miles is outstanding. What is the longest training run you do and do you aim for a specific distance or a specific amount of time?

Sometimes I run by distance and sometimes by time. My longest training run before my 50 mile race was a 35 miler. My longest training run before my 100 K was 9 hours.

Sometimes I will do "back to back" runs on the weekends which are a 20 miler on Saturday followed by a 25 miler on Sunday.

How are you doing? Did you go for your walk on Sunday?

Hi, Jazmin:
Congrats on the 50 miler! That was a tough break on the 100K. Do you drink a sports drink and/or Gu during the events themselves? Sounds like the cramping problem was more electrolyte than just fluid.

I am going to assume that the knee problem diminished when the achilles problem cleared up. Did you make any shoe changes over the past few months? I had also assumed you were a woman when you said you weighed 110 lbs. But since you hadn't revealed that, I thought it best to let that pass. However, since you said you finished 2nd in the women's division...I guess that cleared that up.

Rereading Dan's post on Aug 22 about placing the race into more manageable increments, I was thinking that as you move down the road (or trail), you have to be saying to yourself "OK, in the next 2 hrs, I have to get in 10 miles". Now, that's daunting!!

You are right in assuming that the cramping was due to an electrolyte imbalance. I was taking in sports drinks and Gu at regular intervals, enough so that I was not losing weight, (taken at check points)...it was just so darn hot that I think what I really needed was electrolyte tablets. I plan on experimenting with them at my ultras next year.

Also the knee problem ended when the achilles cleared up...you are a smart guy Wink .

Jazmin are you going to try the Succed (sp?) tablets? It seems that they get a lot of endorsements in Ultrarunning.

I haven't started up the walking yet. There is still some nagging soreness in my foot but it isn't at the sight of the break. So maybe I'll try it this weekend.

Paul, it would be nice having you on the crew but wouldn't you really rather run it with me?

And what about you Jazmin? Ever thougth about Western States?

Paul, Micah, Fry, Dan me and anyone else should head to Western States one day...yes, I have thought of it. 100 miles will be my next goal. First I have to conquer 100 K. Very Happy Wink

I've heard succeed tabs are good but I have a brand called Endurolytes, they have more potassium and a bunch of other minerals a well as B6 in them. I will give them a try.

Did you get out for your walk this weekend? I hope the foot is doing better. We are presently under an 8" blanket of snow! I'm not ready for winter running...waaaaaaahhh Sad

Ah...come on Dan...aren't you even a little interested?

I went to the local college yesterday. They have a 1K track around the intramural fields. I walked one lap in a blazing 15:32. I felt a nagging low grade pain in the last 5 minutes or so. I guess I'll give it another few days before I try again.

Eight inches of snow?!?! It's 75 down here today.

Micah, I couldn't possibly do Western States unless they injected 90 wt into my knees at every checkpoint! Sad

The weather has been pleasant here, no cold snap yet, but it looks like its coming this week. Dan's teams were phenomenal at Districts. Its been a roller coaster ride, but almost everything came together Saturday. I wish I could have been there.

Here's a tantalizing race report for Sunday. Run Like Hell 5K: 19:55, 16th out of 565 runners. Shocked

Did you really run a sub-20? You know what that means, you can't hold that over Janelle's head anymore. Wink

There was nothing phenomenal about our District performance... We qualified, which is the primary thing we set out to do, but we didn't perform particularly well in the process. Fortunately, few other people did, either.
