Thanks Micah! This will be my first 50. I have done 17 marathons and a few 50 K's. Weekly mileage is in the 50 to 60 mile range. Long runs are around 30 to 35 miles and I don't do much walking except on steep hills, I probably don't do enough walking. I have a really slow jog though that I incorporate regularly.
Every weekend I do one of these long runs OR I do back-to-back runs which are, for example, on Saturday you run 20 or 25 miles and on Sunday you run the same or slightly longer. It's strange but usually the Sunday run feels easier than the Saturday run.
During the week I run pretty short distances, 5 to 8 miles per day.
Jaz
P.S. I am sure you will get there, it just takes time.
P.P.S. I read a good quote today: "Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go." |

Jazmin, how did your 50 miler turn out? Did you win? Did you meet your goals? Did you finish? Please let us know. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Hi Micah!!
It's been forever since I've been on board....sorry for this very late reply. The 50 miler was awesome! I finished in 2nd place, (women) with a time of 10 hours and 11 minutes. I've had a really good racing season this year with 2 - 52 K races, a 60 K, and 7 marathons. In September I hope to finish a 100 K.
How is your running going? I hope everyone is having a great summer!

Congrats on the great finish! I have such a hard time fathoming a run that long, I have to break it down to 10 mile increments just to make sense of it.

Thanks Dan!
Many racers do just that...break the distance down into more manageable chunks and then just take it one step at a time. Hey, I bet there's an ultra-runner in you just screaming to get out

Wow congrats Jazmin on the 50 miler - I have often thought of doing one of those 50K - 50 mile races over the last year - maybe next year too many othe rthings to get in this year to worry about that. _________________ The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat. |

Congratulations Jazmin!!!
That is an incredible accomplishment. I will have to check my Ultrarunning magazines and look for the race report on that one. Which 100K are you doing?
My running has unfortunately ground to a halt. X-rays this week revealed a bone chip in my left foot so the doctor ordered an MRI and I go back Tuesday to find out what the treatment is going to be. So I figure I am done for the rest of the year.
Good luck at the 100K and please don't wait so long to give us a report on it. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Micah, I am so sorry to hear about the bone chip in your left foot . What kind of treatment are you recieving?
My 100 K was in Lethbridge Alberta and I ran just over 70 K, (11 hours of running), and then crashed and burned. I had to quit due to severe muscle cramping. I was drinking a ton throughout the race but I guess it wasn't enough, I'm not exactly sure. It was run in extremely hot conditions.
On a positive note I finished in 4th place in my age group out of all the women in my province in the "Ultra Series", ( a bunch of ultra races staged throughout the year)...so I'm happy but can't wait to tackle the 100 K distance again soon. I hope to run another 100 in May 07. My next ultra will be in February....a 52 K.
Thanks for the support all

Hey Jaz!!!
Good to hear from you again. Congrats on the 4th place finish in the series. Too bad about the 100K though. Those things are tough enough with just the distance but then you add in heat and you really have your work cut out for you.
My foot is getting better. I have been hobbling around in a "moon boot" for the past 7 weeks. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and hope to be out of the boot by lunch! _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Hi Micah!
I hope you are out of your moon boot.
Did it drive you crazy not being able to run for so long? Were you able to do any cross-training? Keep me posted on your recovery K?

I'm out of the boot and it is amazing how weak the foot and calf became. But the healing is finished and the doctor said to just gradually work my way back to running as the foot allows. I'll probably go for a very slow walk on Sunday and just use that as a starting point. The plan is to gradually mix slow running in a few minutes at a time until I can run two miles.
Then I will progress on up to one hour runs on week days and long runs on weekends and then marathons and then 50K's and then 50 milers and then 100K's and then 100 milers and eventually a sub 24 hour finish at the Western States 100.
Well that is the plan anyway. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |
