What jogging shoes would you recommend for a tall, heavy runner- 190lbs?
I dont pronate or suppurate or whatever it's called. And i like to jog 3-6 miles a day. Also, what jogging clothes would you recommend for winter jogging? I wear an old baggy, woollen track suit and soon become drenched in freezing sweat, with my top and tee shirt saturated and uncomfortable.

I'm too out of the loop for shoe recommendations (Graham?), but for clothes (Paul?), you can't go wrong with SportHill.

As far as running gear I would suggest any decent running store would have some technical wear - being a Tall runner though I would second Dan's recommendation of SportHill - because they have many sizes - I think something like 16 different sizes for the bottoms not just s,m,l,xl...

Shoe recommendations - tough not knowing other factors but woul dgo for something with some support maybe One of the Addidas Control ones, Asics - lots of people seem to be happy with the 2000 series I think they are up to GT 2090 or 2100 should be out by now... Hmm I love the new Brooks for racing so one of those like the Adrenaline might suit you... I could keep going but the main thing is to go to a place and try some on - see how they fit your feet and keep running!

good Luck

Don't know if you're still reading this Tom, but if you are, try to get into a specialty running store that will evaluate your fit and give you some options based on your foot type. If that's not possible, it sounds like you're going to need a "neutral" shoe given that you don't pronate. Some things you could try:

Asics: Cumulus, or Nimbus. The Nimbus is much more cushioned and has more "features" but it's also $190 cdn.

Brooks: Glycerin, or Dyad. If you have a flat arch (which is rare for someone with a neutral foot) the Dyad is a good choice.

Mizuno: Rider, Mustang, Creation. I love Mizuno's current line of shoes. When their rep came into our store I tried them all on and was very impressed.

Both Asics and Mizuno put by far the most amount of time and money into R and D, but that doesn't mean you can't find a good shoe in another brand. If you're looking at other shoes, you can usually tell whether it's intended for a neutral runner if it has a single density midsole. This means that the white material that makes up most of the shoe (the non-upper part) should be all the same. Lots of shoes will have a darker, denser part at the back or through the arch, you want to avoid that.

The best thing is to find a store with knowledgable people that can help you.

I prefer the new AVIA 2051. It's great. I have a neutral foot as well and this on eprovides the stability and support I need. I think the main advantage for you as a larger guy is that The shoe relies on cantilever plates that absorb the shock. This proves to be more comfortable and last longer since it doesn't just rely on the foam memory to return to it's natural form. Use my links to check out the shoe technology and running shoes. Hope this helps.

I didn't realize Avia was still making runnine shoes. I thought the company that bought them in the mid-90's was going to drop the cheaper stuff in the line and move the better stuff up to their own brand or something.

Not sure really. Found these guys online and tried out their shoes. After viewing their technology section and running in their shoes I was impressed with the performance. Of course I'm not a great runner but I did feel a difference in post run fatigue in relation to my feet, shins and knees. I recommend taking a look.

I'm forever biased against AVIA...

A couple of my teammates tested their shoes regularly in high school (it was a local company in Portland at the time), and despite all the free spikes and racing flats, they always pulled out their trusty Nikes for hard workouts and races. They just didn't have much good to say about the AVIAs, even free.

I had a pair of their basketball shoes once and was unimpressed...

I don't remember where I got it, but I had the "spider" cushioning system out of one of their shoes, and it looked like something you'd see in a Happy Meal... It was sort of fun to press down on and have it hop across the table, but it was a complete joke for its intended purpose.
