I am in a strange mood since several weeks: I lost joy in running! Embarassed
I still run my 25 to 30 miles per week, I still join my running mates, I still do my intervals etc. but I don't like it (fortunately I don't hate it either)!
I have to squeeze myself into my sneakers, I sound like a steam engine already in moderate heart rates. I lost my motivation, it's all very frustrating Crying or Very sad
I talked with one of my running mates, he recommended to suspend running for 2 weeks, it's a good time for it anyway before starting with the winter endurance training.

What do you think, could this be helpful. I am scared that I don't restart anymore Crying or Very sad
I am grateful for any comment or advise!

Peter

Well, it depends what kind of runner you are, but remember that everyone fluctuates between loving and hating running... I do at least. Some days it takes all the will power in the world to get out the door (not to mention proceeding to get myself through a difficult workout immediately afterwards) and other days I can't wait to get out there.

The one constant is that everytime I get back into that mood of loving running, I'm glad that I toughed it out when I didn't want to because my fitness hasn't missed a beat.

Hey Peter, It's all about why you run. Are you training for anything specific right now or just running to be running? If it is no fun then take a break. Put your running shoes out of the way but somewhere you can see them every day. You will know when to resume.

hi,

why don't you just stop running for a certain time of let's say 2-3 weeks and make other sports so you can keep your training level...swimmimg or
training by bike? after 3 weeks you will surely never want to miss your running again...and best thing...you keep your training status :D

... did the 3 weeks help? No, they didn't, everything seemed to turn worse.
In the training, even the slower mates became quicker Embarassed

I had a word with our coach, and he told me in a very friendly way: "you are too heavy you must loose weight". Being sensitive is normally not his strength Wink. An abvious but true conclusion, I gained 25 pounds over the last 12 months.

I went to my doctor who chose a "strange" diet: reduced carbs, no sugar, and sweets, reduced fat, increased proteine, vegetables and even more vegetables. Another rule is to have only 3 meals a day, no snacks. It's not really a low carb diet but goes in this direction.
Although I was skeptical it works relatively good.
I was ravenous all day, this has gone. And I also lost 12 pound (since Christmas). Laughing
And now the most important: I absolutely enjoy running, it is easier to run without this 12 pounds. On my "slow runs" over 5 miles I gained 3 minutes just by the reduced weight.
I hope I am back on track again, keep your fingers crossed!

Peter

If you had mentioned the weight gain in the initial post, the loss of motivation would have made a lot more sense. 25 extra pounds to carry around would make anyone unhappy.

Yeah typical: close one's eyes to the most obvious ...

No worries, at least you're now addressing it. Smile
