Well, my cross country team started practicing monday and currently we have:
62 people on the roster

Here's a look at what ways the team grew:
Last year the guys team had about 15, 5 seniors graduated. About 10 or 12 freshmen came in that are all looking pretty good. In addition, my friends and I recruited some of our other friends. We now have a little under 30.

Last year, the girls had 28. Many of which had to be "shelved" during the season because of injury. I know one or two of the constantly injured girls left for medical reasons. 4 seniors left, about 5,6, or 7 frosh girls have joined. Also add a few other recruits.

Here's an even more interesting number: Of the 67 that signed up "interested", 62 joined! Amazing recruiting success.

Last year we had about 43 or 44 people, the year before that around 30 total. So in the past 2 years we have doubled the size of the team

Not to mention we're also a fairly small school for this big of team. Our high school usually has about 860-880 students.[/b]

I'm impressed! Shocked

Keep us updated on how many stick with the program through out the season. Also, are you #1?

That's a very good sign for the next few seasons. Gotta have numbers!

I have seen bigger, though... Mead HS in Spokane, WA used to come down to our invite and their travelling team had in the neighborhood of 100 JV boys alone. That program was literally the best in the country (year after year), though. The college team I worked with regularly has 60+ men and women.

I did far too much experimentation with the scrimmage to really go for no. 1. I was injured only a few days before, had very little rest, and tried a new sports drink the day of the race, and tried to set up my spikes in a "special" way for the course. I didn't feel well. So I gambled it all... went to see how far I could pace with the (potential) state champion. I felt like I was dying. I took 4th spot and had a real clunker of a race. 19:25... I've done workouts faster than that! Anyway I hope to be ready to take top spot next meet, and stay there...

It's ok to experiment with the scrimmage. You are better off finding out what doesn't work there rather than in a race. So when race time comes stick with what you know and are comfortable with and the result will be much better.
