Maryam Yusuf Jamal has recently done something no woman has done in their career and she managed to do it in less than a month. Regina Jacob was the first lady to run sub 2 minute for 800m, sub 4 minutes for 1500m and sub 15 minutes for 5000m but was found using performance enhancing substances-nullifying her.

Last year I saw a video of the Stockholm meet women's 3000m and saw Edith Masai win the 3000m but a young Ethiopian pushed her to the line-I thought pretty girl but only decent athlete. Her name was ZENEBECH TOLA and she outkicked some big names in that Stockholm field in her only 2004 track race but nothing to hint at her 2005 season.

Fastforward to Sept 2004 she began her road racing campaign with a:

Sometime after her last road race she offically became MARYAM YUSUF JAMAL (Brn) and went on a spree with setting impressive personal best:

in 2005:

800m............1:59.69...........1)Geneve

5000m...........14:51.68..........2)Hengelo

still early in the season Maryam will mostly likely continue setting personal best making her a threat for the Gold in any of four events at the Worlds. The young athlete has now established herself as the lst woman to break the barriers in 800m, 1500m, and 5000m in a career-and she did it in SEVENTEEN (17) days!

I expect Maryam to continue to lower her personal best significantly this season but really wonder how she will do at the Worlds and what event she will focus on?

Ah, that explains it... She's one of the ones I highlighted in the Fantasy thread for people missing from last year's lists. I guess the cat's out of the bag now.
