You got it. Brown is the Bruins (at least the last time I checked they were). So my final list looks like: (in order of preferance)

1. Princeton
2. NYU
3. Colgate
4. Brown
5. Dartmouth
6. Vermont
7. Tufts
8. Gettysburg

Probably won't apply to the final two because I know I'll get accepted to one of my top 6 (I'm hoping it's not just Vermont, though). Being from Oregon is pretty helpful when applying to all these east coast schools. Last week someone came to South and gave a presentation about Colgate, which only two (myself included) attended. Colgate is very generous with the Fin Aid, and that may be a deciding factor. Going to one of the top public schools in the state is also helpful when applying to colleges.

Duck's Fan, that is an impressive list of schools. Have you visisted any of them? I lived in New Hampshire for a year and can tell you that New England is beautiful. So if you go to Brown, Vermont or Dartmouth you have a lot to look forward to with the outdoor activities.

When do you think you will hear from the schools and make a decision?

If you come out to visit Princeton let me know... (I live there I can show you around and go for a run or something) The area around Princeton is quite scenic and a lot of good places to run... I also Officiate most of the meets at Princeton so I can tell you first hand that the coaching staff are first rate - good guys.... There is however a new XC and Distance Coach who I have not met yet although Fred (the mens coach and former Olympic Decathlete) was very happy with the hire.

And yeah I went with teh Brown one because of the Dartmouth and Princeton guesses... And as far as I knew they had always been the Bears

Wow, normally an alum should know the mascot of their former school (my dad went to Brown and told me they were the Bruins). Knowing this, I probably won't apply. Neutral

I have visited all the schools on my list with the exception of Tufts, Dartmouth, and Colgate. I really love the east and will go over there under any circumstances. I don't really know what I'm looking for in a school, so that's why I wanted a list with a plethora of options. I have big school/small school, big city/small town, intellectual school/party school, etc.

I'm taking a trip to NYC next Wednesday to visit my sister and visit NYU and Princeton. From this visit, I'll decide which place I want to apply Early Decision (I don't know how long this has been around, but it's pretty self-explanatory). The once catch is that if you are accepted ED, you must go there (unless you can prove that they would give you insufficient aid). Needless to say, this is a pretty important decision. I will know if I'm accepted ED by around Christmas time (the app is due Nov 1). If I'm accepted, I can obviously begin to relax a little more. Although my cousin almost got her acceptance to UCLA taken away because of a 2nd semester D. If ED doesn't work, then the other apps are due Jan 15 and I'll hear around mid March. This allows for a trip back east during Spring Break to try and get a feel for the school, although it would be pretty hard if the students aren't around.

AM_Runner- I am going to be visiting Princeton next Friday, but I already have plans to meet with an admissions officer and go to a class. We're taking a train over for the day and won't be able to visit very long. If you're on campus and see a tall skinny kid in amazement, that's me. BTW, I don't have to worry about meeting with XC coaches (Dan can tell you why). Laughing
