Boston is next Monday and Marla Runyan is entered. That would be a huge win if she can pull it off. With the speed she brings to the marathon this might just be her type of course. After she gets through the Newton Hills she can use her natural speed against what ever the other runners have left. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I haven't heard anything about her preparation, but she looked pretty over-matched in the late stages at New York. Do you figure the competition to be weaker or for her to be in better shape?

New York was her first marathon so I figure the late stages were new teritory for her. But now she knows what it feels like and with her track record for success she should be able to make the adustments needed.
The Newton Hills come at the 17-18 mile point and are usually the decisive point of the race. If she makes it through without having them take any more toll on her than anyone else then she has that speed to use. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Music to my ears.

Well, the dust has settled and Marla finished 5th with Milena Glusac 8th and Jill Galienty 9th. An excellent showing for the US women. Russians were the top two females.
Kenyans took 8 of the top 10 men. Eddie Hellebuyk was first American in 10th and he was also first master, 42 yoa. I can't remember the last time we had an American male in the top 10. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Nothing earth shattering. Men's win 2:10:11 and women's 2:25:20.
Marla 2:30:28
Milena 2:37:32
Jill 2:38:19
The temp was close to 70 throughout the race so the times will reflect that. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Some goofball coach was trying to convince me the other day that research indicates temperatures much above or below what one is accustomed to have no physiological effect on performance.

I invite that coach to come run with me any noon in August and see what he thinks then. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I just came in from a 4 miler. It was 88 degrees with 52% humidity for a heat index of 92.
Tell that coach to come on down here and get a dose of this and see how it affects him
And it is only May. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Yeah, no kidding. :t-: This weekend is actually supposed to be the warm part of the week, but of course there aren't any local meets to speak of...
Just be glad you weren't out on the track in a singlet at UO!
