That's not good. Sad

My training sucked from March through June. I was basically running 3 miles a day, 5 days a week, and getting nowhere. I finally upped it about 5 weeks ago, doubling that level to close to 30 miles a week on average. Other than tapering down this past week, I've just been trying to maintain that level and build back some fitness.

I guess that makes me 5th man on the HS team... I had my time at 22:39.47, but I guess the official time was 0.03 higher and rounded up... My estimate of 40 runners (I didn't think to count beforehand) wasn't too far off, either. Note the 1:15 gap in front of me, yikes.

What does "JV" girls mean? is that the junior girls group or something? Lucky they didnt beat you! What kind of race was this? was it to do with a college or something or was it just a public open to everyone kind of thing?
Is 17:24 a good time for a 5k? Because I think I could nearly do that. Just on Sunday before I hurt my leg I broke my record for my normal daily run of 2.75k, in 9:10. I estimate the remaining 2.25k would take about 8 mins. Thats on a flat circuit though, - do a lot of these races go up and down hills etc to make it harder?
As soon as im better I'm going to run 5k and see how long it takes

JV stands for Junior Varsity. Which is the designation for athletes, usually young ones, that are good enough to be on the first team at their high school. JV teams allow athletes to get experience competeing but, against athletes that are at their level as opposed to the Varsity (first team) which are usually a fair bit better than them.

It was an alumni run for my high school. There are usually quite a few of my old teammates at the event, but only a few showed up this year. 17:24 isn't terribly fast, which is largely why I think the course was long. Noah was running hard, and I know he's capable of 16:20 or so. That course is pretty flat, so aside from some sharp turns and sloppy stuff in one spot, mis-measurement is the likely culprit. I think the extra distance was somewhere in the first 3k, based on an early split of mine that didn't seem right.

The race started out as alumni-only (began the year after I graduated) with a separate community race, then combined the races, then made it open to anyone, be it alumni, community, or otherwise. It's a nice atmosphere and good fund raiser for the team.

Great race Dan Exclamation Exclamation

Now please don't wait 364 days before you toe the line again. Especially since you have Paul as a one man cheering section. Very Happy

In fact, Paul should toe the line with you Exclamation

As long as I'm not one of the birds getting stoned...

Paul's still got more of a limp than I expected, so we'll all have to pull together and wish his knee a speedier recovery. Exclamation

Next race in less than 364 days? We'll see...

Sorry Embarassed

Age grading starts at 34 and it's purpose is to give a way for old farts like myself to engage in trash talking. Very Happy Cool

Yeah, but here's a little back and forth between my dad and I 5+ years ago:

Dad: My body's starting to act its age.

Me: Well, it's about time your body acted its age, because my body has been acting your age for years!

So you see, I was deserving of age-grading in my early 20's...

The date for this year's Alumni Run is tentatively set ... Wednesday, August 27th, 6pm @ LO Junior High. Exactly 4 weeks away!

Supposedly some new trails throughout the woods and a revamped first-time course. I guess that means it will be measured about as accurately as last year...
