Umm, did you read anything in the posts in between your two such recommendations? I don't see how lane 7 could correspond to a mile (440y laps). Please explain...

I can think of one way lane 7 would equal 440y, and that would be if lane 1 were on the order of 370m. Pretty unlikely, to say the least.

I go with the sign as my authority. It was a standard 400m track and it told what the yardage was for each lane for 1 lap. And lane 7 is 440 yards. It was put up by the school athletic department and was made of metal. It also encouraged joggers to stay out of lane 1 and 2 to prevent uneven wear.
All the in between messages were needlessly fuzzy thinking.

Uh-huh. Obviously that makes thinking logically unnecessary...

find the spots on track where the hurdles for 110m should be placed. They are all 10 yards apart or 9.144m. Start from the first hurdle and after 4 laps finish on the second hurdle, and you will have run 1609.144m

I think I got caught up in the 110m start line option and overlooked your first suggestion. Picking any two consecutive 110m hurdle marks should work quite well, as you are guaranteed of being able to find two that are on the straightaway of any sensible track, assuming you can even identify them in the first place...

Good idea. Smile
