Do the 800, it's got a great combination of speed and endurance. The mile will eat you ALIVE.

Just saw this after responding to the 10K post. I think you need to move up; the 800 may very well be your race. We've got Elijah Greer in our backyard, here. Besides 1:47 as a junior, He ran either very low 16's or high 15's in 5K XC this year.

High 15's on what's considered a fairly tough course... We raced his team a few times and Greer has a kick unlike many you'll see in XC. You can't overstate the value of speed at the end of a race!

Based on what you stating a bout team and all (it is commendable that you are loyal to the interests of the team) but you may especially after doing the 400 work you are doing be able to ask the coach in lower key meets to move up to the 800 as has been suggested - I have never had a problem with that in the past you may be counted on for points in qualifier meets but low key early outdooor season meets I would often get folks a bit out of the comfort zone and stretch them - milers running together on a 4x400 400m runners working on stregnth up at 800 that sort of thing... shoot Asafa Powell just did some 400m and its been done often in the past here in the US as well...

I also think that it may even be a good idea to think about if you want a good shot at distance to think about maybe doing some summer work and going out for XC to start the fall see if you like the distance. Not sure where you live but there may be some outdoor all-comers meets in the summer as well... where you can run unattached and whatever you want...

Im planning on doing summer work and going out for xc next year. Im also gonna talk to the coach about training with the distance kids and becoming more of an 800 runner then a 200/400 runner.

Even if you don't end up moving up from the sprints, just training with the distance group will ensure that you have more of a year-round philosophy to your training, given the necessity of summer running to do well in the fall (XC).

Well, my coach just told me today that im going to be running the 200, 400, and the 800. Im not too happy about running the 2 but if my coach wants me to run it i will. Im looking forward torunning the 8 which ive never done before and my school should have a really solid 4 by 4 this year and for the next few years. We've got 3 sophmores who run between a 53 and a 57. Not sure who the fourth runnner is going to be though. Oh also thought i should mention that ill be running the 1200 of a dmr.

Not all three every meet, I assume?
