This was by far, the most life threatning experience I've ever been in. It was about 2 in the afternoon, and every time I run in the forest I set a point such as the cabin. Anyways I run with my ipod on to the cabin until I hear a bunch of barking and a huge wolf-like dog coming towards me from a hill. At that moment I took my ear phones out and was frozen solid. The dog had a chain around its neck with a wooden tag hanging from it-it was a sheep dog. These dogs are absoluptely the worst thing possible to pitbulls, so it was dangerous. The dog comes right at me barking and showing its teeth with legs loaded to spring on me. The worst thing was that there was no sign of life around. It was just me and the dog. At that moment I was walking back slowly without turning around, but every time the dog had bursts of anger it made me flinch, and then he flinched too, like he was about to bite. So I keep getting circled by him and I try to keep facing him. When I was backing up towards the point where I started running, the dog would come around my back and force me to walk backwards in the other direction. I thought I wasn't going to make it out whole or alive out of there, but his dumb owner comes on the top of a hill and the dog rushes to him. He asks me what happened, and I said I was running, but then he says "Well then don't run here." After that I get away, but that encounter was around 5 minutes long. For 5 minutes that dog was around me almost ready to bite. It kind of made me more aware of life, and shortly after I ended up running back to where I started wielding a wooden club. _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8

You've fought a dog before? I don't know about running away, but I know that's something one should never do. It can become more aggresive after, might as well grab a large stick near by and pound it. What encounters have you been in before? _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8

I was assuming since you said punch it in the nose, I thought it might have been from experience. Anyways, I started to bring my automatic hunting pocket knife. (Press the button and blade swings out). Legal or not, it's in my defense against the dog. Not only that, but if you manage to kill or harm a dog critically in the forest, there is little the owner can do to find you. The owner was in his 50s-60s I don't blame the poor farmer. _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8

Interesting, I've always known that biting on the nose, etc. was a sign of power over a dog; it's a wolf-like instinct I saw on NG. Anyways as aggresive these dogs are, they still got the wolf instinct to go for the throat, we don't want that do we? _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8

Dog is a sub--species of wolf.
They were domesticated using their two main instincts:
-1) to hunt in packs;
-2) and to allow the alpha dog make the final kill.
From the wolves or dogs perspective, the Shepard was the Alpha Dog, and they were pack hunting chasing the sheep or goats to be killed toward the Alpha Dog. The Alpha Dog would indeed make the kill and allow the wolves or dogs eat after he did.
The best way to make a dog subservant to you is to feed it. This is why, when a family has a dog everyone should take turns feeding it, but only after the family's food has been placed on the table (the dog must eat well, but eat last).
This polar opposite with cats: whomever feeds the cat is viewed by the cat as the servant.
We do imprisone them at homes, but the reason that African Wild Cats started leaving with us is because by farming we took their mice away; they followed the mice into human habitats.
nota bene: European Wild Cat cannot be domesticated; even in case of hybrids, no domestication has occured. _________________ http://vincovitanj.tripod.com/Do_not_be_a_victim1/index.htmlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u43o595CARQ

I just had another dog chase after me while I was running. I don't know what's with dogs here, but Romania's not too tight on animal laws. In fact from time to time, it becomes common to see a stray dog here and there... _________________ My favorite all time race: Hicham El Guerrouj - Prefontaine Classic Mile 2002 http://youtube.com/watch?v=4YykUTHzOL8
