As to the Institute of Bio-mechanics and Orthopaedics' study, it was wrong in its designed because it did not take into account that Mr. Oscar Pistorius does not have lower limbs' muscles. He does not have calves. Therefore, even if the lesser expansion of energy during an effort occurs do to the use of the cheetah prosthetics, it may not be enough to make up for the lesser power of his lower limbs due to the missing calf' muscles.
Therefore, it does not give him an unfair advantage, but brings him at par with non--disabled athletes.

Ahh yes they are wrong because it "may not be enough"

Solid ground to then state it "does not give him an unfair advantage"

I've commented elsewhere that this matter had nothing to do with right or wrong. The IAAF simply could not allow him to compete, else the line would be completely blurred between natural and artificial aids. They would have commissioned as many studies as necessary until they got the answer they wanted.

Fair enough actually the concept does interest me - if I catually had enough time to research it it would be nice... ugh work has just been insane lately

Anyway I was listening to an interview with Todd Williams on this as well and he brought up basically the same thing - where does it end. and what constitutes the advantage... I think it was the same interview where someone had mentioned a rumour that some country (i believe it was China) had done some experimenting with breaking bones in the leg and spliting them so that they could regrow to a certain length over time... I qualify this with I have not found any other info other than hearing it but its pretty crazy.

I never knew who Oscar was unti I watched this one youtube vid of him racing. Then I come back here to take a double glance, and I found it very surprising. I wonder if the prosthetics help him, because they look very springy that can help on his stride lengths.

Studies say they do help significantly, although there are plenty of people who disagree.

That seems very slow, relative to his 400m prowess. Must take longer to get the blades up to speed, then the efficiency takes over in maintaining velocity?

I am gald; but next time around, IAAF will be right about a similar case. The tech is progressing with every passing year.

I just checked his PRs and he has a 46 second 400m time. I personally think he's fair amongst other athletes. Just because he doesn't have extra strength from his calves, that added "spring" on his prosthetics increase his stride length. All world records in paralympic, pretty amazing.
