Dan wear tests for Nike and can give you info...

Heh, I've run like six times since June '05. I doubt any info I can provide on shoe models is very relevant at this point! I'm a couple of seasons out of date.

Hey Paul, thanks for asking...the achilles is fine but now I'm having problems with my left knee. I've slowly built my longest training run up to 36 miles and last week I began having intense pain on the inside of my knee. I've been icing, resting and have had some massage done. I am really hoping to be at the starting line of my 50.

If your achilles is problematic, it changes the way everything in your lower leg angles to absorb impact. It makes sense that the knee would be adversely affected.

But Dan, it was my right achilles and now it's my left knee that hurts...does this make sense?

Directly no, indirectly yes. It could just be a compensation thing. Pain on one side, place more weight on the other side, pain on other side...

Exactly ... When one side of the body is hurt (knee, ankle, arm whatever) the other side of the body often has to compensate to try and keep the body balanced ... The result will often be an injury on the opposite side of the body - the side absorbing more pressure ...

Jazmin, how did the 50 miler turn out? I am a fan of the ultramarathon scene but I haven't run one yet. Did the achilles heal?

Hi Micah, I will be running my 50 in 2 weeks, (hopefully)...the achilles is fine... now I just have an issue with the inside of my left knee. It becomes very painful after about the 35 mile mark in training runs. I hope it holds up for the race. Thanks for asking.

Jaz

P.S. Do you run marathons?

Unfortunately I seem to pick up injuries everytime I get out to the 15 mile or so distance. I have run several half marathons and a boatload of 5K and 10K races so maybe one of these days.

Which 50 are you running.

It's called the Blackfoot, up in Alberta Canada. That's too bad about you picking up injuries beyond 15 miles, but I totally understand. Some say that trail marathons are easier on the body than those on the road, (less pounding.) I hope you are able to try a marathon sometime Micah, I really enjoy them.

Good luck with the 50. Have you done one before? Also, what kind of training do you do? What is your overall weekly mileage and how long is your long run and how often do you do a long run and do you mix in walk breaks?

In other words, tell me everything. Very Happy

I'm going to get there some day and I would like to know what kind of training works for you. I may be able to borrow some ideas.
