The girl I paced in last week's workout qualified for State, so naturally I had to run the tune-up workout with her again this week. Today's was a bit more volume at a supposedly slower pace, but my sense of pace has somewhat deteriorated over the past couple years and it ended up being every bit as fast. I didn't manage the entire thing, but I did make it through 800 (81/84), 600 (82/43), 500 (77/19), and 200 (33). It was a fair bit windier than last week. I was feeling a moderate amount of foot soreness toward the end of the workout, but nothing too terrible. That's the fastest (and most) I've run in a while, so it's to be expected.

Yeah, that about sums it up. Hardly spectacular, but noteworthy nonetheless.

Nice Job Dan... very good to see you running (well hear about it at least)

As you can tell I never did get out there this month - they pushed my trip back to October.... Instead I got to go run in Tokyo for a bit and am off to the UK in mid June...

Are you going to try any races in the near future?

Probably not, but I may try pacing some of my athletes in time trials... Does that count?

I've built up to running 3-4x per week, but I've had so many lower leg problems (compartment syndrome, ankle sprains, calf cramps, and lingering tendon soreness/weakness that borders on pretty painful) in the injured leg that I've only been able to run 1.5 miles continuous and usually 2-3 miles total, so fitness is coming along slowly. The pain finally got to be too much last week, so I took the past 4 or 5 days off to rest the leg and just work on stretching it out and relieving tension. Went for a 2 miler today and it felt great for the first time in 53 weeks. My quads and lungs were crap, but zero pain in the problem left leg.

That sounds encouraging. Sometimes a pain free run is the best kind no matter what the pace or distance is.

Although, at the same time, when you feel that much better than normal, you sort of want to go forever and keep enjoying it.

I try to think of it as a learning experience. Smile

I managed 4 miles today with just one walk/stretch break at 2.5 miles. I felt pretty good (particularly the left leg), other than some off and on cramping of both calves which was annoying but bearable.

Looks like we're in for a bit of a temperature break this week. Should make it easier to get out and log a few miles. I think I've handled the heat better this year, but I do like it when the temp drops below 90.

Breakthrough day today! I ran with the team, doing a hill workout. Including warm-up and cool-down, it was just shy of 6 miles (7 for the guys). I sat out one hill and picked up the last one with the guys to make it up, and otherwise made it through the whole thing pretty much in one piece. Now I'm tanked.
