I am in a unique situation. Its that 2-3 week period between the end of track and "official" beginning of cross country training. The mileage and workout schedules are slightly different, but I don't know what to do in the weeks leading up to the official beginning of the workout schedule! Furthermore, the atheletic trainer at my school said my right ankle area is at risk for a stress fracture. The trainer told me not to run, but I'm wondering if there is any way I can keep my fitness level the same by the end of the week. I cannot afford to lose 2 weeks training just because I didn't know how to work around it. |

What's the basis of the diagnosis? From my own personal experience, "possible stress fracture" simply means calcium buildup they can't quite explain.
You can always ride the bike and do pool workouts to keep fitness up while eliminating running impact. If you just finished the track season, you should be taking 2-3 weeks for rest, anyway, so you shouldn't feel any pressure to hop right back into XC training.

Speaking from the experience of having 3 stress fractures in the past:
REST REST REST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Taking two weeks off will not effect you as much as you think. However, a stress fracture will knock you out of running for at least 8 weeks of no running and then an 8-10 week period of gradually getting back in shape.
Are you having pain in the ankle? Why does the trainer think you may have one? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

This weekend I took really easy. I got plenty of sleep (9+ hours), ate well, and slept well. The walking seems to helping a quite a bit. Does anyone know if there really is value in walking? |
