Neither has been convicted yet ... Have to be convicted before you can be cleared ...
The whole drug issue is going to be a big mess this year ... Marion is already threatening a law suit against anyone who tries to keep her from competing due to the whole BALCO thing ... And she has been making a lot of weird statements that I read as panicky and somewhat revealing of potential guilt ... _________________ Conway

That makes sense. For some reason, I thought they had been found guilty, just no penalty handed down yet.

No ... NOthing yet ... But the push is on to do something before the Trials start ... US is afraid of getting a black eye this year ... Might get it anyway .. _________________ Conway

Did you see the article I posted in the "Drugs" thread in the Rambling Runners forum yesterday? It adds an interesting twist to the Kelli White situation...

I saw that. They have really twisted themselves into knots over this. _________________ Paul

The only way out of it I can see is to not suspend either of them, which might be the worst solution of all, given their hard line stance against drugs of late.

Yes I saw that earlier ... There is no way out at this time ... A conundrum to be sure ... The sport has literally painted itself into a corner ... And I agree with Dan in that the worst thing they can do is to do nothing ...
What I would do is take away the medal from White ... Give it to Kapachinskaya ... But take it away ... Why ... Because she is serving a suspension for drug use and the event that she won the medal at is close enough time wise that she could have been on drugs even though she did not test postitive ... Hell create some sort of "related" clause ... Any suspension results in losses for up to 6 months either side of the suspension or something ... Fix the rules ... _________________ Conway

I'd be extremely upset if they went that route, as it would make a mockery of any legal system. Unless you get someone to admit to prior use like in Ben Johnson's case, you have to assume current use is only indicative of use from that point forward. Who's to say she didn't decide in the fall that she needed to make up a couple tenths and started using then?

The "legal" system really doesn't play a role in any of this since there is no "unified" legal system ... Ask Butch Reynolds ... The whole thing is already a mockery ... Might as well put some teeth in it as opposed to what is on the table now ... part of me is being silly ... But part is serious ... _________________ Conway

Sure, but that just opens things up for more lawsuits, which are already crippling the system. It needs to have sound legal basis to be viable.
This is getting off topic, though...

True ... The topic needs a thread of its own ... That is if anyone wants to discuss it ... Back to the track there are a couple of important meets this weekend ... Banamex in Mexico City and Home Depot in Los Angeles ... _________________ Conway

Did I hear correctly that Kelli White was just hit with a two year ban? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

You heard correctly ... Apparently the information gathered by the Feds includes test results from BALCO (via another source) and usage schedules as outlined by Conte ...
Word on the street is that Michelle Collins is next ... Perhaps as soon as tomorrow ... and that SEVERAL others will be falling before the Trials ... _________________ Conway

Runners World is reporting that in exchange for a two year ban, as opposed to a four year ban, Kelli will tell all that she knows about others who have used banned substances.
These kind of deals are not unfamiliar in my line of work. I am sure though it will bring up some moral questions for a lot of people. It is interesting to note that Kelli is taking full responsibility for her actions and has blamed no one or nothing else for her problems. That I can admire. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Apparently Conte used soem sort of code to provide instructions for use of the drugs along with the proposed schedule for taking them ... Kelli knows this code ... So her testimony in this area is of extreme value as it pertains to the others that they wish to bust ... Note that Kelli was NOT busted based on a positive drug test, but on OTHER information detailing her use ... _________________ Conway
