Vladimir Kotov, 46 years old, won this years Comrades Marathon in South Africa in a time of 5:31:22.

Comrades is actually 56 miles so that works out to a 6:07 pace. That is his third win at Comrades in the last 4 years. Comrades is one of the most prestigious ultramarathons in the world by the way.

OK, I went to the site and I see where its 89 Km with slight yearly variations.

Paul, You could be right. I was going from memory when I said 56. In either case the old guy was moving to say the least! Surprised

Graeme, Traditionally ultras saw mostly people over thirty, and that is still the most common age range, but there are more 20 somethings entering the sport. Looking at the lists of top performances in 2003 for men and women the top ten lists are filled with mostly runners in their 30s and 40s with a few in their 20s. Having said that, Scott Jurek who has won the last 5 Western States 100 races is 30 this year.
