Splits of Women's 4x200m Relay World Record
PennR 2000. Note:These Splits were taken from a 42Hz Video recorded by my cousin on his vacation. So they might seem a bit slow compared to Splits that you might think the person might of run,if you catch my drift!
1st Leg,L.Jenkins(USA) 22.13s
2nd Leg,Colander-Richardson(USA) 22.59s(Suspicously Slow Split)
3rd Leg,N.Perry(USA) 21.94s

British All-Time Relay Legs for a Men's 4x200m Relay
4x2:
1st Leg,M.Adam 20.38s ??? I've read this Split on a Forum, and as I haven't got any Faster 1st leg Splits for a Male Briton,I had to include it to the list!
2nd Leg,A.Mafe 19.99s Birmingham 1989
3rd Leg,L.Christie 19.89s Birmingham 1989
4th Leg,J.Regis 19.53s MSR Walnut 1994
Total: 1m:19.79s

Splits for each Leg of the Men's 4x200m World Record setting team. I also took the Splits for the World All-Stars team who happened to finish Second on that day, also finishing inside the Ex-World Record.
These Splits are taken from a TV show on the History of the 100m Sprint. It showed a Bio on Carl Lewis and it then went on to show his Best moments. And it happened to show the Santa Moinca Track club setting the 4x200m Men's World Record. Lucky me!!!
Santa Monica Track Club
1m:18.68s(NWR) MSR Walnut 1994
The Splits of both Teams are taken from a 47Hz tape.I know that the race was shown at this Hz,because when I went back to view the tape and to take the Splits of the team members I counted the Frames/s.
1st Leg,M.Marsh(USA) 20.06s
2nd Leg,L.Burrell(USA) 19.63s
3rd Leg,F.Heard(USA) 19.59s
4th Leg,C.Lewis(USA) 19.40s
Total:1m:18.68s(NWR)

World All-Stars Team
2nd Place,1m:19.10s MSR Walnut 1994
1st Leg,J.Drummond(USA) 20.09s
2nd Leg,D.Mitchell(USA) 19.84s
3rd Leg,Bridgewater(USA) 19.64s (Cannot remember his first name!!)
4th Leg,J.Regis(GBR) 19.53s
Total:1m:19.10s(Second Best All-Time mark)

So that concludes my Lists of 4x200m Relay data from a mixture of Hz Video-Tapes and Literature.
Do you have any data PJ??? I'm sure you do,if you do could we see it???
Please!!!
I do have some 4x2 and 4x4 Splits of Michael Johnson. They are listed in the Athletics 2002 Book, which has been called the 'Bible' of Track and Field Athletics!! I strongly believe that statement!! It is a great book for any Track and Field enthusiast. I have some 4x1 Splits of MJ,but I don't know if they are reliable enough.I'll check into it and see what I get. The 4x2 Splits and 4x4 Splits from that book are good.I shall post them and we can evaluate.
Later

For the Women World Record, I have found those splits from my tape:
1:27.46 Jenkins 22.8, Colander-Richardson 22.0, Perry 21.9, Jones 20.83.

X King, I still don't understand where those 47, 38, 42HZ tapes come from... It makes no sense. Especially for those 4x200m races, those value mean that it is slow motion. I don't think TV show this kind of races in slow motion all the way... Especially at those "fast" slow motion speeds Confused

The races were slow motion.especially the Walnut Relay.I don't know why they were shown in either slow motion or ''fast'' slow motion speeds. That just the way the TV chose to show them.
As for the 4x200m data that you have posted,It is very interesting,I love your knowlege and the way that you present it.Great stuff PJ. Thankyou!!!
I think that the 4x200m Relay should be an event in Major,International competitions. But then you would have to consider the Times in which the event would take place. What do you think???

Oh i would love to see 4x200m relay in major championships, as well as 4x800m, or medlay relays, and intermediate events like 150m, 300m, 500m, 600m, 1000m, but 1 week isn't enough for that big program! I think also the spectators would be lost with all those events, and all those medals!
I think those events are just fun for statisticians, as long as the level of those events are poorer than Olympic events.

I surely miss many other sub19.7 legs in my list, we have also to be careful with those times, often the track configuration doesn't permit to see clearly the 200m marks between the exchange zones, and most of those times are hand times. Track & Field News reports for example that for Maurice Greene in Austin'2001, hand watches had his leg in 18.8, but they say that film analysis showed it was actually around 19.2.
Same for 18.5 by MJ. I don't pay much attention to that, maybe there was a lot of wind, but it seems "too" fast for me.

I agree with you, seeing any kind of relays from the crowds is a great show! I've seen once PennR on TV (in 2000), it was very pleasant to see!

PJ,Dan or anyone viewing this topic, have you ever seen a Shuttle Hurdles Relay??? The Men's Relay is 4x110mh, and the Women's Relay is 4x100mh. I think they are interesting, but I've never seen one either in the flesh or on TV.I wonder where the exchange zones are???
Does anyone have any Splits of either of those Relays???

I saw one in a high school meet 2 years ago and found it to be pretty dull. Too much mayhem to really get a feel for what was going on.

Oh the shuttle hurdles can be very exciting at the elite level ... Used to see it a bit in the 70's and early 80's ... But money in the sport made it too much of a financial risk I think ...

As for relays in general THAT would help bring fans to the track ... Nothing beats the excitement generated by relays !!!!
