Just got the Feb. T&FN...Webb on the cover with a big headline--"Webb Training Like a Pro"...the inside story says he has been in Albuquerque for a month of high altitude training. Looks like he's hanging out in DG's old neighborhood---maybe using the Cibola track and who knows, maybe DG's old gym as well. I guess the implication of the article is that he's free from the "distractions" of college life...I don't know, the title just irked me a little--"training like a pro"...gimme a break. I guess "Ratzo" has some serets that only the "pros" know and Webb was damn lucky to get out of Michigan before he was ruined by "amateur" training. I realize that probably wasn't the implication of the whole article...just my first impression and it colored the way I read the story. |

I probably would have read it more literally -- he's training how the pros do now, not like a collegiate runner like most of his peers. Time will tell whether or not that's a good thing.

I also assume he's dropped out of Georgetown. Wasn't one of the original ideas continuing his education?? That got dropped in a hurry. |

I'm pretty sure he was going to George Mason not Georgetown, but either way he would almost certainly have to drop out or take some kind of over the net coarses if he's in Albuquerque.
When I was down in NM last time there actually were a couple pro runners on Cibola high's track. Which you can see from my parents back window. Hammer Chuck and I grabbed my dad's binoculars and watched. Although I doubt it was Webb one guy was black (a Kenyan I'm guessing) and the other was bald and looked older than college age. But who knows maybe they were just scoping the place out for Alan. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

The bald guy could have been Webb. Doesn't he have a pretty "high forehead" ? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I doubt it, this guy was fast but not that fast. If your wondering how I know, it's because we were timing them. We must have been a sight three guys staring out my parents window, looking through binoculars, timing complete strangers on a high school track without any idea what the workout was or what they were training for. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Track nut... I suppose you could call me that. I also go by, distance fanatic, athletics aficionado and radical track and field extremest. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

At least I didn't call you a distance freak, although even that could have been fitting in a non-insulting sense in this case.

That's better because you can take it to mean many different things, especially since our roster of people on the injured reserve is larger than our roster of healthy runners. |

Yes, we really must do something about that.

I guess I can't complain. I'm better now, on the injured reserve, than when I was healthy. Great training info, great people to train with, it doesn't get any better!! (Hey, and great food, too!!) |
