Ok, I got serious at the first of the month. I was notified that I only had until the end of March to get to a certain weight or I would be taken off the list for the FBI school this summer.

I know the Atkins diet isn't held in too high esteem with some of you but I tried it and it worked for me. I went from 207 to 200 in about 10 days. I drank a minimum of 64 ounces of water daily so I know I wasn't just losing water weight. I have added small amounts of carbohydrates in the last 4 days and I'm down to 197 now.

Since I am only running 2-3 miles 3 times a week (still rehabbing slow) I didn't think the lack of carbohydrates would hurt and so far it hasn't. I also did not get the muscle pain that some people have reported on the Atkins.

I guess my diet isn't strictly Atkins because I am eating some bread and I am using salad dressings other than oil and vinegar. But I am eating lots of lean meat and a couple of eggs a day. And no alcohol. Sad

I haven't had a beer, martini or fine Tennessee sipping whiskey in two weeks. Crying or Very sad

But if it works it will be worth it. I'll keep you posted.

From what I know of your regular diet, I wouldn't think the Atkins approach would be a major departure for you... I imagine the removal of alcohol is the most significant change from an empty calories and sedentary-inducing standpoint.

Nothing like an ultimatum for getting one serious about the diet. Smile

The ultimatum definately works. Surprised

The biggest change I made was the elimination of potatoes, rice, pasta and beans. Also no pizza, pastries, cookies or desserts. And the only time I've eaten out it has been boiled shrimp or a salad with chicken fingers.

Sometimes I feel like I could eat a donut as big as my head...but I remind myself that nothing tastes as good as thin feels. Wink

Did you make that up? That could be a great diet motto! Thumbs Up

My wife came up with that one. It could be a great t-shirt or bumper sticker.

Well, I got beaten to the punch on this one. I was actually going to use it as my new "signature" like this:

"nothing tastes as good as thin feels" Micah Ward post #13357

Myself, I have now dipped below 180 for the 1st time since the mid 70's. Another reason why my training has been going well.

Congratulations, and keep it up!! Thumbs Up

Looks like Paul is run away leader in the weight loss race. Very Happy

Weren't you pretty big during your competitive days? That picture you sent out looked like you had some mass back then.

Micah, I've been as heavy as 238 back in '83. I was big, strong, and slow. My best lifting came after I pared down to 220 lbs (100 kg class). I would train at about 225 and drop 5 lbs for a meet.

When my career was over, I slowly started losing weight, but stalled out the last couple of years at the 185-190 level. Now that my training regimen is better, I'm well under 185 fully clothed.

Seems to me I remember Ranger saying he has dropped from 195 to 155 now.

Considering the current political situation, I've decided to hold off on the French beer and stick with the English varieties. Oops, I guess that's not going to be a very tough concession, is it!! Samuel Smith, Young's, Fuller's. New for me: Young's Double Chocolate Stout and Fuller's London Porter. Those two make Guiness taste like water!! Surprised

Paul talking about English beer.

Ranger G with the cops and donuts connection.

You guys are killing me. Sad

I could drink a six pack of Guinness and eat a dozen Krispy Kremes right now.

And BTW, it is a policy in most departments. You have to eat donuts to get hired. Wink
