I just found this book on amazon.com: Training for Young Distance Runners
Has anyone read this or heard anything about it? I thought it might be beneficial for me to get a book aimed at younger runners, but there are mixed reviews on Amazon, so I'm not sure whether I want to cough up 14 bucks for it. |

DG's probably familiar with it. I only know it by title...
Have you checked the local library to see if they have it? That would at least tell you if it's something worth owning for your bookshelf.

Yeah, I checked the library, and they didn't have it. In fact, I could only find one running book. I think I'll just ask for a bunch of books for Christmas. |

Graeme, do you have any large bookstores in your area? If you want running books for Christmas maybe you could look them over there. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

I have had the best luck finding running books at my local running shop (I can look thru them there) Other than that try Barnes and Noble or Borders Books, in person or on line.

Training for Young Distance Runners. I know it's by Coe (possibly Martin as well) and it's one of those books on my too read list. I've read other stuff by him most noteably Better Training for Distance Runners and I can tell you two things. One the information contained is very good. Coe uses a multi tiered technique (basiclly meaining he uses all different types of training in every cycle and phase of training). Which is probably the best system out there (although slightly skewed towards middle distance in my opinion) and I like the way it's organized. The only down side is you must be careful not to get bogged down because he can get rather technical. But those are all tendencies of his, since I haven't read this book I can't tell you much more. _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Training for Young Distance Runners is a book authored by Laurence Greene and Russell Pate, published by Human Kinetics. A good resource for beginning youth, I think Graeme has matured past where the book would be of significant value to him. I skimmed the book earlier in the year, and I'm going to pick it up again from the Library to give it another look.
DG, this is different and not nearly as advanced as the Martin and Coe book.

Paul nice work. I can't believe I totally whiffed on that one. I guess the cover and name look sort of like the book by Coe (which I recommend) that must have been the reason for the slip sorry _________________ Time is the fire in which we burn |

Between the two of you, we could start a very well-rounded Running Book Club.

Thanks, however, I've been extremely negligient on my book reviews. After reading Joe Newton, Joe Vigil, Frank Murphy's book on Buddy Edelen...and then seeing the USATF's new mascot...I guess it's just not coming together for me.

Thanks Paul and DG. I checked the biggest bookstore in town and they didn't have it in stock, I would have to order it. |

hi there, I have that book and its a goodie ...for abeginner.
I got it because of its running physiology ink and also because it explains periodization really well.
`There's highligts on various runners...like Steve Holman when he was a newbie.
