To distance runners just beginning or in the early stage: don't confuse training with racing! Don't leave "it all" on the practice track! Mad Dog Mike training2run.com |

Sure I could be more creative, but I've got a thing for 400's. I also like 200's, flying 150's, 150/120/90/60 type cutdowns, in and outs, hill sprints, etc.

I love hill sprints too, up or down. Good thing, because where I am, about all we have are hills...you should see it after a hard rain - do I slide ! Mad Dog Mike www.training2run.com |

Those are the fun ones. I'm also a big fan of running hard downhill (I wouldn't quite call it a sprint, because that would send you airborne and hyper-extend every lower body attachment).

In marathons, going up hill, I'm almost always slowly passed by tons o'people. Going down the otherside I fly past them all, and more besides.
For some reason, these jerk-os expend their energy charging uphill, but put on the brakes going down. Could never figure that out.
When training for The Laurel Highlands Mountain Challenge, the most important part of the training (though I didn't realize it at first), was running downhill at some speed (though not quite airborn.) Mad Dog Mike www.training2run.com |
