Hi!
When I woke up on saturday, I had a pain the bottom of my heel on my right foot. It wasn't hurting the previous day, and has come on all of a sudden. It hurts just walking. It feels kind of like there is too much pressure on it, like if you stand on one foot for too long, but just all the time when standing or walking. I thought if I took a few days off it would go away, but it hasnt. I'm not even too sure if its related to running, as it has happened so suddenly. Have you got any idea what could be causing this? If it helps, I'm mainly doing interval training now - 4 sets of about 550m a day with around 250m jogs in between.

thanks for the help!

Doesn't sound like anything I know of.

Get thee to a sports medicine specialist.

I get pains like that every now and then. They typically come on without warning overnight and last a few days, with the first day feeling like my foot is all swollen up. I've never figured out what causes them...

So will it go away if I don't run for a while? I've taken 3 days off and its getting better but still far from perfect - hurts walking. Will it just go away if I wait another couple of days? I don't really want to be stopping training now.

thanks!

A few years ago I experienced the same pain. I changed the inserts in my shoes and ran through the pain for the next couple of days (with reduced mileage.) I believe it had to do with my shoes. Since then I have changed shoes regularly and the pain hasn't returned.

I'm not positive the pain was related to my shoes..... I'm not sure if your injury and mine ae the same...

If it isn't just a heel bruise, then it sounds like classic plantar fasciitis. Does it hurt when you first get up in the morning and then subside after you've been moving around awhile? Check out the plantar fasciitis article in the guest article links to the left.

...and good luck
