Anyone have any suggestions for a half marathon I can run (I'm basically a rookie)...I ran the Spirit of St. Louis half marathon in 2003 (my first) and have sort of backed off distance running for the most part, running in 5ks and a 10k recently...

I've heard the Rock & Roll half in VA Beach is fun and am also looking at the country music half in Nashville...anyone have any tips??

I haven't run either of those but I have heard good comments about both. Rock & Roll would be a flatter course if that is an issue.

I've only done 2 HM's myself. I tend to slow down quite a bit from 10K to the half, 50-55 secs a mile. But I've had no problem completing them, even with no serious long run in my training. Last year I ran a difficult Half in 1:42 and change with 11 miles as my longest training run.

Are you planning to travel for it and what are your goals for the race itself... Personally I thinki the half might be my best distance... It is a good race for me I do tend to lose focus in the longer - marathon distance from time to time.

depending on what you are looking for there are a ton out there - take a look at the recent Running Times issue I think it has Tirunesh Dibaba on the cover it has something like 350 half marathons in it. I am loking forward to my next one in September - The Philly Distance run - they have actually for the first time this year joined that whole Rock and Roll bandwagon (hehe that actually works quite well)

Seriously though are you looking for training type tips or just good races...

That sounds like me describing the 800 vs. 1500. Wink

I had one meet I remember where I ran lead off in the 2-mile relay and as I handed off the baton I had my name called in the HJ - I walked over and started my run up as I got close I knew nothing was going to happen so I stopped and knocked the bar off...

I cleared on my next attempt
