Asahara Nobuharu, Suetsugu Shingo, Batman Daniel, and my e-mial friend, Marcin Urbas will try to show off early in the season to hopefully land starting positions during the major meets later on. They should try to pull an unlikely upset against the greats such as Gatlin, or to choose the winner from amongst each other in the case of the 200—meter race.
Urbas – he should do well this year, but it is unlikely that he will ever repeat sseason’1999. His fast running seems to have ended with the turn of the century.

Nothing out of ordinary: Gatlin won his final. Urbas seems to be back to the shape from 1999: running 20.30 to 20.40 on regular basis when peeking (the 19.98 was a fluke, tough). For the first time in his life, he did skip the indoor season. He seems to want to get into some quality meets. His goal is obvious: to get into the 200 m European Champs final.
Gatlin should dominate the European circuit.
Gatlin won in 9.95 in 100 m.
Urbas was 4th in 200 m in 20.63.
Of the other wannabes, I believe that Australian Batman did the best in 200 meters, 20.56 during the Australian off season.
Over all amongst the wannabes, the Japanese did the best: Takahira was first in 200 m in 20.48, and Omae third in 20.57.
From my personal perspective, the best dash race during the meet came when Felix and Durst finished 1st, and 2nd, respectively, in the women's 100 m race in 11.11 and 11.16.
They did outclass the rest of the competition.
They were followed by Jones (ISV) and Myrick (again USA) in respectable times of 11.29, and 11.33, respectively.
The best of also--runners finished in 11.53.
In the long sprints, Kikaya (COD), 45.06, and Kanemaru (JPN) 45.41, did achieve good times (unless you have been spoiled by the North American 400--m specialists) in the early season, and finished first, and second, respectively.
However, the best of all, came in the hurdle--sprints: in the 400--meter event, three athletes ran in under 48 seconds (Jackson, 47.60, Iakovakis, GRE, 47.83, and Narisako, JPN, 47.92). Carter was wisely fourth: nothing happens this year for the US athletes: neither world nor Olympic championships. It is always fun to see the guys trying to qualify during the Olympic season of whom you thought that they are already gone for good: a bunch of guys and gals waking up from a long hibernation.
In 100 m H, Liu Xiang won -- it is all that needs to be said (Wignall, JAM, was second, but the time that he ran makes me expect that even a Polish hurdler, if healthy, would have a chance to beat him: 13.50 -- I could think of two after I checked the "tabele", but one of them came back last year after skipping entire 2004 season due to an injury).

Very good opening races for Gatlin and Bershawn ... Gatlin was only 10.27 this time last year so says a lot about his conditioning and form this year ... Same for Bershawn - way ahead of last year's curve ...

Urbas is a nice sprinter ... But I have to agree that his sub20 was a fluke ... Would be nice to see him in the 20.2x range however because that is what it will take to be in races this year with the depth that has developed ...
