A great lift provided by britains tim benjamin upsetting wariner and running a pb 44.75, his first sub-45.

British athletics is in the doldrums and his win was much needed and providing he stays injury free( I fear he may be another roger black who was blighted with injuries through his career) a medal looks likely. I feel confident to say that based on this race alone.

A great run by collins to finish third in 10.00 flat.
After a string of mediocre performances he seems to manage to get into form at the right time.

I will look for him to make the final again, but no cigar this time.

My first chance to see spearmon and he was absolutely amazing.
Looks like he may be in helsinki according to his post race interview and I will be looking forward to that.

According to Crawford's agent, Kimberley Trammell, he has pulled out of the WCH 200m due to his foot injury, which leads to Spearmon claiming the spot on the team. Crawford will still contest the 100m at the Worlds though.

I can sense a 19.7x here in the WCH 200m final...when was the last time that happened in back-to-back major 200m finals if it happened at all?

Well, we had a 19.75 win the '88 Games ... And while Marsh ran 20.01 in the final into a negative wind, he did run 19.73 in his semi ...

Then we had a real nice streak of Major finals with Fredericks winning in '93 in 19.85, Johnson in '95 in 19.79, then Johnson again in '96 in 19.32 !!!

Been rough going since then though with a slew of 20.0x times winning most of the majors ... From '96 til last year, only Greene won a major in under 20 (19.90 in '99) ... then of course Crawford went 19.79 last year ...

I thought Powell looked very smooth at Pre. Gatlin was struggling at the end and gave it a huge lean to win. So it was my impression, especially after the World Record, that he was the future of the event. My, how quickly things change in the world of sprinting.

How many sub 20's does Spearman have at this point?

Funny, I saw it just the opposite. Powell could have a great race and lose, and Gatlin could have a tough race and win. In the end, one proves time and time again to be a champion while the other keeps coming up short when it counts, not the Pre was a bit meet or anything.

3 sub20s for Spearmon (19.89, 19.91 & 19.97), for good measure Tyson Gay has 2 sub20s (19.93 & 19.99) and I am sure that those two will build on their number of sub20s as the season grows. There have been 6 sub20s already this year which is interesting as the last World Championship year, 2003, had none.

I am curious as to whether capel as defending champion will be running in helsinki as a wildcard entry as per iaaf rules, not that I expect him to make any impact this year.

Capel will be taking his wild card entry ... Though it will be tough for him to get past the quarters ... He's in the middle of a coaching switch which is always tough ... Is now with HSI ... Not good changing coaches in mid stream but ...
